Girls who hit puberty earlier are more likely to engage in risky behavior, Biro's team notes, and might be at a higher risk for breast cancer, than their peers who develop later.' 'Compared to the 1997 findings from girls across the U.S., girls in the current study - especially white girls - were more developed at a younger age. As previous research has shown, there were also large differences in development based on race. At age 7, approximately 10 percent of white girls and 23 percent of black girls had started developing breasts - compared to 5 percent of white girls and 15 percent of black girls in 1997, the authors write.' What say you to this? It spells trouble to me. More *pre*teen pregnancies.

Thing is, it's not necessarily nature taking its course. It's theorized that there are growth hormones in the food we eat, such as beef and chicken, that are making girls develop earlier than they should. Really, girls are supposed to start puberty around the ages of 10 - 13. Now it's around 7 or 8 - 10 years of age, a lot earlier than it was before and it's a bit concerning.

Growth hormones in food? Who thought that was a good idea?

thats not suprising... i grew at age 8 (i was hated at the playground :cry: ) seriously though that could cause problem's

no jealous girl's the principal's granddaughter made out with my boy (best friend) i was in 5 grade....i did'nt care we laugh at it now :lol:

You were hated for starting puberty EARLIER? That is rather odd (And trust me, i'm 13 so I would know :P)

Anyway, those 2 statistics are totally unrelated, it's like saying that people who have brown eyes seem to drink more water than people with blue eyes.

Most troubling for fathers of daughters, like myself. Now only if the MATURITY rate were to increase, that'd be a different story. She's already a headache.

Great, I was just telling my friend how we needed more 7 y/o jailbait up in the club.

In all seriousness though what do people think will happen if you put all these hormones in food and then feed it to people. Also you will find the highest concentration of hormones in the food of lower income neighborhoods. So its no coincidence that black girls in the US are hitting puberty at a higher rate.

Obviously there are possible health risks when you fill people with animal hormones, but with girls hitting puberty faster will how will it affect us socially, positively of negatively? Also why weren't boys discussed in the article? Are boys not being affected or is it a case that people don't care if males hit puberty faster but they freak out when girls enter that stage earlier due to the historical sexual repression of women?
