[QUOTE="quiglythegreat"][QUOTE="353535355353535"]okay, so it holds 8% of the worlds reserves353535355353535
Go for that. It still doesn't export most of that and simply does not give out much oil in comparison to other countries, and certainly does not constitute eight per cent of all petroleum produced in the world.

the only reasons for that are 1: prior to the invasion, the UN placed sanctions on Iraq 2: the war of cource. If we pull out, it wont export any cuz of a civil war

The point is no one is reliant on that oil and if they were, they would not invade because that would just complicate everything. I can't think of a single instance in history where a country in civil war has been invaded solely to stabilize and ensure the continued exportation of any national resource and I can't imagine Iraq would turn into an instance of this.

Not yet. Pulling out now is simply stupid. If we do, we let in anybody who wants to bomb us and pretty much kill thousands more people. But those troops need out. I just want them to finish what they started.

some of us believe that our bothers in arms did not die in vain

if we continue to battle the insurgency until the Iraqi government can get on its feet, the soldiers would not have died in vain

if we let it descend into civil war, then they would have died in vain

You helped south vietnam defend itself against an invading force...but In the Iraq conflict you invaded a country and occupied it. That's two totallydifferent things.

It's already free, last time I checked there was a democratically elected government in place, so they are "free".

So why are we still there?

The groups that are attacking civilians out of anger of the U.S.'s continued occupation?
Iraq has a military stong enough to deal with this problem on it's own.

Well then you would be the one with a weak grasp on history, not me. They just kind of hated each other at that point, the two governments. Iran was not at civil war anyway.

Vietnam was an insurrection supported by invasion, very similar to the insurgents being supported by outside forces today.

With over 200,000 strong in the Iraqi force, it's ascapable than handling itself as it ever will be, if not, we will just be a permanent occupying force, wasting more lifes and more money.
