question about the zodiac signs

Why are people saying that if an individual was born before 2009 your zodiac sign is not different, and an individual is born after 2009 it is different. So what happened in 2009 that changed?

The new zodiac sign has always been there but not until now they have decided to bring it out. The reason for this is because the Earth is slightly tilting a bit more causing the Sun to point to a new zodiac sign called "Ophiuchus". I personally dont believe in horoscopes because i dont see how they reflect ones personallity. Another thing you may want to know about is that the Sun doesnt point at a certain zodiac sign perfectly every 30 days or whatever. If you really want to know your true Zodiac sign you need to find someone who knows Astrology and they can tell you exactly where the Sun was pointing the day you were born.

Depends also on the zodiac sign you follow. If I recall, the tropical zodiac sign has a 13th zodiac. If you follow the other then nothing has changed. Do't fret. :)

i already know about precession, and that the earth completes a wobble approx every 26,000 years. i know that zodiac were originally based on the 12 constellations the sun passes through in the sky even though the sun has always passed through the 13th. i have known they change through time.

Also to your question about the sun pointing at the constellations directly. Constellations have boundaries in the sky, so the sun is passing through these boundaries and the dates are based off passing in and out of the boundaries that these constellations occupy. The sun has always passed through the 13th sign, for some reason it just wasn't used. And the earth's tilt does not change, precession pretty much just changes the direction it is tilted in, is the best way i can put it.

no i don't believe in astrology. the point of my question was that I don't understand how people can believe that all the signs changed in one year, and that being 2009, which was my originally question what is so special about 2009. it makes no sense, considering that everyday has changed signs at a different point in time. using a program called starry night, i was able to figure out an approximate year that my zodiac sign changed it was 1700, and then i did my friends bday too just to compare, and hers changed approximately in 1535, so 2009 makes no sense. I was wondering if anyone could make sense of it.

So following all of the recent news about the 'new' 13th zodiac sign, most of the people in the tropics have suddenly experienced wild mood swings, and are no longer compatible with most of their partners? It must be chaos over there! :o

There are 2 types of astrology. The Eastern, called Sidereal astrology, follows the constellations and that's the one that changed. The Western, which people normally use, is the zodiac astrology. The zodiac follows the seasons or something like that and that hasn't changed.
