"An open letter to the brony community"

 It seems from an outsider's perspective that the brony community has a much higher percentage of weird obsessives than other similar communities. The only thing that comes close to this is the yaoi/yuri anime communities, and the vast majority of those people of those people are teenage girls. The bronies are the only time I've ever seen such a large number of men (often in their thirties or older) so obsessed with a kid's show to this disturbing degree.

Well, again, I don't really believe it's the show itself that fans may seem to obsess over. I think many people just get caught up in the surprise popularity of the show and feel the need to share their interest with everyone, as it's something that most from outside the fandom would consider agasint the norm (or just plain weird. Whichever).

I still think the fandom is pretty tame, though. The most bronies tend to do is just sperg out in public with terrible fashion (and perhaps even show an attraction for cartoon ponies...).

I walk on the fringes of society, have some pretty awful guilty pleasures and it's both funny and sad how people can get so worked up over what other people like when it doesn't affect or harm anyone else. That being said, this whole "brony" phenomenon is just beyond bizarre. What is it about this show that attracts the most deranged, socially inept and creepy guys around? I don't get why this particular cartoon has attracted all these maladjusted guys. You could probably write a sociology thesis about this stuff.Rhazakna

Not exactly, but a bored middle-aged man might notice something in the characters features that they are attracted to.  I've seen my fair share of all types of porn, and trust me, it gets strange fast.
