The first time I saw this was actually during a regular perusal of The Onion's official website, but I'm pretty sure I would have still known it was a joke otherwise.
If not, though, it wouldn't be the first time I fell for a satirical video like that. It really can be hard to tell, especially with humor as subtle and well-acted as the The Onion's.
I knew it was fake when at the end the Make a Wish guy said "Now we have to grant wishes to him until the day he dies." To which the reporters say. "Which we hope will be soon."
