Racism is the belief that one's race is superior and other races inferior. Demographics =/= racism.

Racism is the belief that one's race is superior and other races inferior. Demographics =/= racism.

Not exactly, discrimination or prejudice based on race also constitues racism.

My opinion: this was probably done with good intentions but was horribly misguided and ultimately comes across as incredibly patronising. Also, celebrating African-American culture was probably not McDonalds real goal, they obviously had some other incentive.

Main Entry: rac·ism Pronunciation: \ˈrā-ˌsi-zəm also -ˌshi-\ Function: noun Date: 1933 Racism : racial prejudice or discrimination

When private companies advertise/promotes based SOLEY on race (as does that website) that is an act of racism, especially when they do not counter balance with websites which advertise/promotes the other races. A classic sign of liberal guilt.

And by posting a website you are accusing them of discrimination? I've seen all races work in McDonald's so they don't discriminate. Prejudice can't be legislated against in and of itself. It appears as a way for them to reach out to a specific community. Not a big deal. Racism is misused too much....

So now you say all advertisements that McDonald's makes show ONLY one race? That is false.....they want to appeal to everyone. More profit.

Which dictionary did you use because I got this....

Racism is the belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.

The fact they are promoting a "race" via their "black success stories" can be taken as racist since they are not including other races. They are not stating the race is "better" but they still separate and prmote them from others, that is a racist slant. People who claim that "they celebarate blacks so that means they're not racist" are very misguided, the fact that they celebrate ANY person just because of their color is a racist act in itself.

Or the fact that many McDonald's are located in areas that are predominately black and they want to recruit from those areas means just that. It's not racism unless they are NOT allowing the same work opportunities to other races. They do. /thread

This thread is not talking about their Jobs in certain locations, we're talking about their "black" website. Nice try to back-peddle and save face though.

oh my god the hypocrisy! You just posted this in the thread regarding microsoft editing a black guy out of a photo and replacing it with a white guy.

It's not racist, it's an advertisement targeted to a specific audience. I would have done the same.Unassigned

Targeting a race for demographic advertising purposes is fine in my opinion, but celebrating a race (like that website) is wrong and racist. Two different concepts which allow two different viewpoints.

So, would it be wrong if someone viewed the McDonalds website as "targeting a race for demographic advertising purposes" instead of "celebrating a race?"

Exactly. As a graphic designer, I know about targeting groups. This site is racist, pure and simple. It is PC gone overboard.

No targeting a race would be making an ad for McDonalds that shows a black family, or Asian, etc. Making a site DEDICATED to blacks is racist. Again, I have to do this stuff for a living. We would never make something like this. Again, you have to ask, what if this was a whites only site? White365? How would be be perceived?

Again....you missed what I said earlier. Many McDonald's are located in black communities. And that is definitely a target demographic for the company. If you want to call McDonald's racist then you have to show me (and others) that McDonald's discriminates based on race. A website for opportunities for a particular race is not discriminating. So....show me they discriminate...and not with ONE website.

I'd guess since white culture is already celebrated everywhere McDonald's doesn't see the need. Though this thread does show equality. Just like when Al Sharpton screams about racism that doesn't exist.;)

I think it would be racist if it was dedicated to any one race. I'm just pointing out the absurdity that it's somehow ok for blacks but not whites.

I guess it's just me but I didn't see anything provocative to racism. Well maybe ''black'' but I think it didn't have any ''racism root under it''.:?

Simply I think that black people want to show everyone that there shouldn't be racism. There are some magazines and other things that somehow may insult black people, so they made their own.

Yes and when it's used by other races it's considered a terrible thing. But okay in this instance. Double standards much?

I guess it's just me but I didn't see anything provocative to racism. Well maybe ''black'' but I think it didn't have any ''racism root under it''.:?

Simply I think that black people want to show everyone that there shouldn't be racism. There are some magazines and other things that somehow may insult black people, so they made their own.

Can you name us one white's only magazine? I sure can't.

[QUOTE="Pirate700"]No targeting a race would be making an ad for McDonalds that shows a black family, or Asian, etc. Making a site DEDICATED to blacks is racist. Again, I have to do this stuff for a living. We would never make something like this. Again, you have to ask, what if this was a whites only site? White365? How would be be perceived?

Pirate700

So, you're basically saying this website is racist because whites wouldn't be able to have one without some calling it racist?

I think it would be racist if it was dedicated to any one race. I'm just pointing out the absurdity that it's somehow ok for blacks but not whites.

Who said it wouldn't be okay for whites? Just because certain race baiters like Sharpton and Jackson would cry doesn't mean the majority would think it's racist. This simply does not fit the definition of racist.

[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]The double standard I'm seeing in this thread is that the race card. I'm seeing it in reverse TBH.

LJS9502_basic

Of course the race card is going to be used in a thread about a site dedicated solely to blacks. :|

Yes and when it's used by other races it's considered a terrible thing. But okay in this instance. Double standards much?

Note; I'm not talking about anyone specifically here....

If there was 365whites.com, I would expect blacks to be angered because it's absurd to have a site for a major company dedicated to a specific race.

A major corperation could never, EVER get away with white365.com and you know it.

It doesn't matter if they could "get away" with it. What matters is if it fits the definition of racist. In this case that would be a no.

That is correct. While it may offend those of other races...this is not racism.
