[QUOTE="MrPraline"][QUOTE="Funky_Llama"]I think it's OK. Probably 'its own' would be less clumsy, but idk. I can very reliably tell when a sentence is ungrammatical, but I can never really explain why.Funky_Llama
Same here (well, more so in Dutch); I do most things on feeling. I wouldn't really be able to explain all grammatical rules.

It results in silly conservations when my Chinese lab partner asks me about wording: 'Is this sentence OK?' 'No.' 'Why?' 'No idea'

Why do people call that area the Balkans. Why give them a collective term, they're all very different. Slavs, Greeks and Albanians shouldn't be grouped into one collective noun.

Why not? It will help unify the region under a collective identity rather than silly religious differences that sparked genocides and wars.

Why do they need a collective identity?. They're not the same people. Do Mexicans and Americans have a collective identity?.

"Men are in charge of women, as Allah has given them more (strength) than the other, and because they spend of their wealth (to provide for them). Therefore women who are virtuous are obedient to God, and guard in (the husbands) absence what God would have them guard. As for those women on whose part you fear rebellion (nushuz), admonish them and banish them to beds apart, (and last) beat them. Then, if they obey you, seek not a way against them. For God is Most High, Great (above you all)." - Qur'an 4:34

Muhammad was such a feminist, guys. Clearly Islam is a good religion.

You are not familiar with a cosmopolitan society I take it... Uniting under a secular, cultural banner is much more positive than segregating cliques into their own special areas (i.e. the difference between Canada's "Multiculturalism" and the US's "melting pot"). Especially in the long run.

Voicing your opinions that derides us for voicing ours. What a great debater you are! No religion deserves our respect. If we are to respect the people whom practice it, they must earn our trust and our respect that they will keep it to themselves, and be productive, contributing members to a multicultural, secular, scientific society. If you can't handle the heat, get the f*ck outta the fire.

...including atheism. Oh, "atheism isn't a religion"...well then tell your people to stop treating it like one, and keep it to themselves.

[QUOTE="mkdboy"][QUOTE="bats94"][QUOTE="mkdboy"] No religion is good that promote that women is only good for home! There are muslim woman's in Macedonia who is European state were they have never left their home BECAUSE if they go out they will be beaten with hundred sticks in the back! By the way religion of peace! Yeaaahhhhh right!

Woman's? Learn to spell. I'm not surprised to be honest that an ignorant bigot like you fails at religious prejudice.

English is not my mother tongue I don't need to know it perfect! With humiliation on that base you don't get nothing! your religion is one of the worst! Swizerland knows why! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWYkOEADXfg&feature=player_embedded When i will see muslim woman in bikini on some beach in Saudi Arabija i will belive in your posts! untill then your religion only brings terror around the world!

Reading those comments makes me wonder who the real bloodthirsty people are. Banning the building of minarets is stupid and something I would expect from Southern parts of the U.S. to do. I thought Europe prided itself on being socially ahead of the rest of the world, but this is ridiculous. And just to clarify, Islam doesn't state that a woman cannot leave the house; I don't know where you people get your drivel from, but please don't go around spewing lies.

I see your point but those are within one country. How can you impose cultural banners on countries that are very different. E.G Iberia makes sense because Portugal and Spain have a lot in common. You couldn't get neighbours who look more different than Greeks and Slavs and they don't feel similar to eachother so outsider shouldn't impose collective terms for them, firstly because they will be offended and secondly it's ignorance because there is no similarity.

Yeah, so people need to stop treating it like one. It's kind of ridiculous how pre-occupied people are with their disbelief, and how hell-bent they are about shoving it down our throats.

Your analogy doesn't make sense. If bald, absence of hair, is equivalent to atheism then the presence of hair should be equivalent to theism. Neither of which are hair colors, but both are hair styles yes.

No. I merely lack belief in God. Just like I lack belief in fairies, unicorns and Russel's Teapot. There is a definitive difference between non-belief, and affirmative disbelief. Which was the point of the analogy. One does not have "hair colour" when bald.

[QUOTE="alexside1"][QUOTE="themajormayor"][QUOTE="alexside1"] No. Have no faith in god existence does not equate to negativity of saying god doesn't exist.

That is only atheism in a very inclusive sense.

no that is anti-theism.

Anti-theism is much more than that. It's active opposition to religion, it's not just disbelief. As Cristopher Hitchens said: "I'm not even an atheist so much as I am an antitheist; I not only maintain that all religions are versions of the same untruth, but I hold that the influence of churches, and the effect of religious belief, is positively harmful."
