[QUOTE="Rhazakna"][QUOTE="The_PirateKing"][QUOTE="Rhazakna"][QUOTE="The_PirateKing"]~-~Ah, ok. Well here's a question for everyone. If they said they'll do what you said to a rapist, but YOU had to do it, would you still have the same answer? I would, give me a gun and I'll do it.~-~CheddarLimbo
Then you're just as bad as him.
~-~You know what? Maybe I am, and maybe I'm not, that is all in opinion. Go ahead, think I'm evil, see if I care. I for one don't think ruining an innocent person's life is equal to ending the guilty person's.~-~I support the death penalty for very serious crimes, but individuals never have the right to say who deserves life and who doesn't. Killing a rapist for what is essentialy revenge, doesn't make the situation better for anyone. Two wrongs do not make a right.
Punishing someone for a crime isn't just about revenge. It's also about using the punishment as an example and a deterrent. If the punishment is severe enough, people are less likely to commit the crime.
Punishing someone for a crime isn't necessarily about revenge, but torturing a rapist is. I'm skeptical about the whole deterrent thing. I've read articles that say that even the death penalty doesn't deter people. But even if it did, that doesn't give you the right to torture people. We're supposed to be living in civilized societies, not totalitarian regimes.
