I don't like it at all, I find it kind of sad how those guys live and talk, but I could like rap and hip hop where they don't have horrible lyrics and show off their rides and hookers.Stealth-Gunner
there's also Alternative Hip-Hop people always look at Rap as of Hardcore/Gangsta Rap like it's the only kind of Rap but NO! not all of the Rap is about these things
I like Public Enemy....PickGlove243
sophisticated bit** is the only song ive heard by them from jacka$$ 2 i think maybe it was the first one..

I know that I meant I could like it but I don't have any songs in that category:P

no but its kinda like muslims and terrorists, not many muslims are terrorists but all(ok so maybe a few arnt) terrorists are muslims. not all rap is about hoes and guns and cars but the songs that center on that stuff are practically all rap. (i have nothing against muslims, just an example. i have a few muslim friends)

That's funny example because i am Israeli and it's not a secret we having problems with muslims. and yes it's true that most Rap is about this stuff but the Rap didn't began like this in the "Old school" (1977-1986) Rap didn't even mention crimes.
Rap is far better than a lot of genres out there IMO.
I would rather listen to artists I like in Rap than country, the mindless drivel on the radio, and of course loud and deafening heavy metal.

well, hate to break it to you but if you're talking about american metal (i.e., guys who can play 2 power chords) then yes, it's F-ing awful. Now if you're talking about good european metal (i.e., stravinsky and mozart meet up and do some speed), then that's a different story and i beg to differ, but to each his own i guess.
as for rap, as mentioned already it's not really music. Banging on a drum and creating a beat is fun, but in my opinion it does not fit the criteria of music. With that said, some 80s rap is sort of fun to listen to, especially when the artists didn't take themselves too seriously and simply made fun songs.
I didn't know you could change the meaning of music to fit what you want. :) Something being classified as music is objective, not subjective.WildLIkeChild
i don't think that i am. yes, one could say that dripping water may be music to some but that falls outside the broad consensus of what defines music. i was simply arguing that a drum beat is not music per se, since at least in my opinion it does not draw upon many of the tonal concepts of music. Maybe it's just the way i think or maybe i'm simply elitist, either way to each his own.
[QUOTE="TallicaFan2005"]The only music thta sucks is metal. Metal is the worst piece of crap invented (Metallica sucks too...don't ask..) I enjoy hip hop....Lil' Wayne is my favorite...Love the new T.I. song too. MrKrono
Are you joking?
No, because a guy with a name like Tallicafan and Marylin Manson in his avatar obviously hates metal

Comparing rap to dripping water is laughable. Explain what the broad consensus defines music as? Music is basically defined as having rhythm, melody, and harmony and rap songs have all of that.
Are funk, jazz, soul, and rock not music then either? Rap samples from all of them...

that just proves my point about how little you know, i don't think anyone would actually consider metalica to be metal.
i know that you're envious of people whose music actually requires skill to play, but it's ok.

first, i wasn't comparing rap to dripping water, i was suggesting that to some dripping water or waves crashing against the rocks are melodic, but most people wouldn't define it as music.
when did i say that jazz, funk soul or rock are not music? And as a side point, sampling someone else's music is sort of sad don't you agree. Why can't people make their own music without "borrowing" it.

but then again, i don't consider thrash metal to be very ummm musical.
It's my favourite genre but i don't like to call it music it's more "storytelling with rhymes" in my opinion i don't like modern hip hop but i can't stop listen to the late 80s early 90s rap it's just perfect IMO
Hiddai
Agreed.

If you say rap isn't music, then you are saying that jazz, funk, soul, and rock aren't music because rap samples things from all of those genres.... put two and two together buddy, it's simple thinking.
You can be just as creative with a sample as you can with an instrument. Why should someone limit music to just playing on instruments, when there are others ways to achieve organized sound? You limit creativity when you confine the ways you can be creative. And it's not like rap doesn't use live instruments either, many producers like Dr. Dre, RZA, Dilla, and Black Milk play various instruments and you have groups like the Roots out as well....
