I'd give them a 5/5. I think they're a really good band, that my friend turned me on to a while ago. My favorite song is either "Just Like Heaven," or "Love Song."

meh/10. Find their music to be pretty boring, but they're far from the worst band I've heard.

This thread was practically made for LJ.

I agree, they're a good band. I'd say a strong 4/5 for my tastes.

I more of a Pixies, Sonic Youth, and Queen guy.

The Cure does have one good song about days of the week, though.

Robert Smith's appearance gives me nightmares/10. I listened to their offerings a while ago, but remember nothing of what the songs sounded like. Which to me suggests they weren't worth my time in the first place. Though, I do remember I thought they were a little too "depressing" for me.

I give them like a 6/10. I enjoy some of their hits. But I mark them down because Robert Smith is the only member who hasnt been replaced. Thats not a band- and does anyone really think The Cure's stuff from the 2000's is even relevant? None of it will be as good as Disintegration. I like their 70's, 80's early 90's stuff, mostly singles. But I cant say they are shaking the world with any of their other material. They had a good run, but its time to quit.

Hmm...Simon Gallup joined for the second album. Porl Thompson has been in and out a few times. But was definitely in the band before it was called The Cure. As for 2000 albums....Bloodflowers is one of my favorites and came out in 2000. Ah a singles fan. Well then that is the difference. I've always found the non singles more interesting.

Great band, but their last couple of albums have kinda dragged down their legacy a bit. When I saw then in 2008 they were still capable of putting on a great performance however. I'd kinda suggest they forgo new material if they can't do better than they have been, and just remain a touring act. And yeah, they're just as much a band as any other. Robert Smith may be the only member who's been there every day since the beginning, but that's the case wiith a lot of bands. They haven't really had that many members overall, they've just had members who have came, went and came back over the years. The current line up is Robert Smith, Simon Gallup, who's been with them since 1979 (just after their first album), Porl Thompson, who was a member before their first album, left for a few years then rejoined for a decade, left to play with Robert Plant and Jimmy Page (and really, who would pass up a chance to play with your idols?), then rejoined again 5 or 6 years ago, and Jason Cooper, who's been with them for around 16 years at this point.

Oh and, 'Disintegration' is seriously overrated. Their best album is actually 'Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me'.

And what's with the Queen comparisons?

8/10. I think they can be kind of trite lyrically at times, but they undoubtedly have some great songs (tho they have stinkers like everyone else) and can pull of a great sound.

I actually tend to like their pop/rock sound better than their darker, more alternative sound, though I do like some (some being the key word) of their more alternative stuff as well.

For instance, I find Killing an Arab or Accuracy and songs like that to be boring and kind of mechanical sounding in an instrumental sense and in a vocal sense whereas a song like Just Like Heaven (the best cure song IMO) instrumentally makes love to the ear and has a great melody. That synth intro sounds amazing.

My other two favorite Cure songs are Boys Don't Cry and Pictures of You.
