There is so much ignorance in this thread, it's almost depressing...such a lack of respect for amazing music written by amazing musicians. Most of you quite obviously don't know jack about the music industry or about the technical aspects of music in general. if you did, you'd would more than likely be giving Tool 10/10.
Oh well, at least you all keep MTV in business.
[QUOTE="1ND1FF3R3NT"]Probably a 12/10. They are my favorite band, and more talented than just about any other group you will ever hear.Greatgone12That's an overstatement. They're not that talented.
They're not even my favorite band but I have to admit they're more talented than any other group of musicians currently alive.
You can't even call them music...it's more like a religious experience.

Indeed....
It's not an overstatement at all. I don't think either of you know enough about the band members or their music to make that kind of judgement...in fact, I know you don't.

 I don't have to know about the band members...the music speaks for itself. I've listened to them. It's boring, repititive, dull music that gets on my nerves before the song is finished. You like them....fine. But they are just another average band that happens to have rabid fans that don't understand that not everyone likes dull music.
All that is required to know about music is to listen to it.....there is no deep religious experience at work. Your opinion is not more valid over anothers. True story.

Tool writes for people who are patient, open-minded, and understand how deep and complex music can be. It's art...so I wouldn't expect you to like them.
That's about all there is to say.

You're generalizing isn't even intelligent generalizing.ÂI'm quite patient, I can appreciate all forms of music, simple or complex. Tool isn't complex. How do drug-induced music videos equate to complex? The videos aren't deep, they just don't make sense. The lyrics are deep, either. They're rip-offs of Bill Hicks and other great songwriters. They can't even write a song without ripping somebody else off. Nothing about Tool is complex or even remotely any different from Green Day or Metallica.
Go listen to some Oliver Messiaen or Johnny Greenwood's solo stuff and tell me about complex.
Tool is a joke. Â

You have no clue as to my musical background..... It's YOUR OPINION. Tool writes music to make them money....period.
I like clas sical music...which is much more deep, complex, and artistic than Tool could be in their dreams. I approach all music with an open mind.....Tool doesn't cut it. It's for people that like to hear the same thing over and over.

to each their own. I hate MCR, but I know plenty of people who like them.
everybody is different, why put other's taste in music down?Â
You don't know Indifferent. Normally, I respect opinions, but Indifferen't different... He's an elitist.to each their own. I hate MCR, but I know plenty of people who like them.

I wasn't until mine was attacked. This thread called for an opinion...which I gave. If you don't want to hear differing opinions....don't ask. I don't ask what anyone thinks of the music I like....nor do I care. But I bite when attacked.
i believe it was lateralus (or another song off that album) that used fibocinarri number as a time signature... now if that ain't reat song writing, i dunno what is!
Â
though at the same time, they're not a patch on Coil (who no-one'll've never heard of, ever)Â

In that case, I wish you'd reconsider Tool. If you gave them another chance and let me point out a couple of things to you, you might not hate them as much. There are frequent overlays and polyrhythms based on advanced geometry, intricate and original chord progressions, transitions in and out of all kinds of time signatures...about as much as is possible with 4 guys and no overdubbing. I think you should give them another chance, I'd even send you the music, because I'm that certain you would change your mind.....but, your decision.

My point exactly.
