Known as the "Master of Stop-Motion Animation" Ray Harryhausen passed away today in London at the age of 92. Influenced to get into the industry when he was completely blown away by the original King Kong, he went on to influence and inspire a generation of film creators and directors as well as those in the special-effects industry. For me he was a huge presence in my childhood through all his early monster and sci-fi work most notably the series of Sinbad films he did for Columbia as well as the numerous fantasy films he did before and after. It comes at a strange time for me as I just spent the past week revisiting a handful of his films in HD and enjoying them immensensly so his sudden death at the finish comes as something of a shock. He will be missed.Â
