Got an amazon gift card from work. Have enough for like 3 albums.

Only thing ive got recently was Halestorm's latest. Which was actually excellent despite being obviously "aimed at radio" genre pandering.

To clarify. I dont generally go too indie or obscure. I like some of what has been posted thus far but a majority of it is outside my tastes.

Basically i like anything that would typically be played on Sirius Octane or Lithium. Really my only solid point of reference.

Three albums from this year you should get are :

Journal for Plague Lovers - Manic Street Preachers
Primary Colours - The Horrors
Veckatimest - Grizzly Bear

Alternatively, go back in time a little and buy The Fragile by Nine Inch Nails.

18 months old or newer. If its older than that and its something i would like i most assuredly already have it. Just trying to save people from mentioning a bunch of stuff i already have or wouldnt like.

Have you heard Old Growth by Dead Meadow, The Seldom Seen Kid by Elbow, and In The Future by Black Mountain? Those are some can't-miss albums of last year.

hmm, Dead Meadow are great and all... but Old Growth really isn't worth checking out. Although not "recent", Feathers and Shivering King are by far their best albums.

TS, alt rock is a pretty vague genre title. Could you give us a list of bands you like or something? I could recommend you albums that come under the term "alt rock" but you might not like them.

I agree with you on the end, but I say Old Growth is a wonderful album.
