Please?

I've liked the genre for some time now but I really don't know what to look for if I were to search for anything within this genre.

So yeah, recommendations please :)

It's not classical in the sense of Mozart and the like, but look up Yanni.

Erik Satie comes to mind. I enjoy his music alot. Especially the Gymnopedie pieces.

Gymnopedie 1

Gymnopedie 2

Gymnopedie 3

I may have those around the wrong way. I think 3 is 1.

TC I think you have to specify cause classical music is a pretty big genre having existed for over a millenia.

But how about some Bach? You can never go wrong with Bach:

  • Badinerie (this isa must it's THE song that brought me to ****cal music and it's just as good so many years later)
  • Brandenburg concerto

The following maybe a little harder to get into cause they're more polyphonic:

  • Great fugue
  • Well Tempered Klavier

Well, here are my favorite pieces, don't know if you'll think they're "wonderful", though. The first one is a Renaissance choral piece. The next two are solo piano, and the rest are orchestral.

Spem In Alium - Thomas Tallis

La cathedrale engloutie - Claude Debussy

Reverie - Claude Debussy

Le Tombeau De Couperain - Menuet - Maurice Ravel

Clarinet Concerto in A Major - 1. Allegro - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Although I love the whole concerto)

Oboe Concerto in C Major - 2. Andante Ma Non Troppo - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major - Adagio - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Water Music - Andante - Handel

Oboe Concerto in D Minor - Adagio - Allesandro Marcello

Waltz-Jose Ferrer. I think that's how you spell his last name. Regardless, it's one attractive piece. Not only that, but I've been learning it on guitar, and it is badass.

Although neither are exactly my favorite composer or in my top 3, I do like them. I only know of the Consul from Menotti, but it's a wonderful opera. (Though, I like Barber better than Menotti :P).

Scriabin - Etude op.42 no.5

Chopin - Nocturne op.37 no.1
Chopin - Sonata op.35 3rd mov.

Won't add too much, you already have a lot of suggestions.

Baba Yetu is actually a track off a recent world music CD named Calling All Dawns. It won a Grammy for best clas-sical (still, Gamespot?) crossover, and it's really good stuff. And if you like Latin I recommend Stile Antico--they're an a cappella group with several great albums.
