I've liked the genre for some time now but I really don't know what to look for if I were to search for anything within this genre.
So yeah, recommendations please :)

TC I think you have to specify cause classical music is a pretty big genre having existed for over a millenia.
But how about some Bach? You can never go wrong with Bach:

Niccolò Paganini's 24 Caprices. Caprice No. 5.
Sergei Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf.
Edvard Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King" from Peer Gynt.
Jacques Offenbach's "Infernal Galop" from Orpheus in the Underworld.
Hector Beriloz's Symphonie fantastique. 5th Movement.
Gustav Holst's The Planets. "Mars, Bringer of War."
Igor Stravinksky's Le sacre du printemps. "L'adoration de la Terra."

Well, here are my favorite pieces, don't know if you'll think they're "wonderful", though. The first one is a Renaissance choral piece. The next two are solo piano, and the rest are orchestral.
Spem In Alium - Thomas Tallis
La cathedrale engloutie - Claude Debussy
Reverie - Claude Debussy
Le Tombeau De Couperain - Menuet - Maurice Ravel
Clarinet Concerto in A Major - 1. Allegro - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Although I love the whole concerto)
Oboe Concerto in C Major - 2. Andante Ma Non Troppo - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major - Adagio - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Water Music - Andante - Handel
Oboe Concerto in D Minor - Adagio - Allesandro Marcello
Speaking of Thomas Tallis.....you reminded me of this great piece: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8c3XvNZ3ns4 Fantasia on a theme of Thomas TallisWell, here are my favorite pieces, don't know if you'll think they're "wonderful", though. Holy crap, I thought I was the only one on this forum who liked Menotti and Vaughan Williams. Although neither are exactly my favorite composer or in my top 3, I do like them. I only know of the Consul from Menotti, but it's a wonderful opera. (Though, I like Barber better than Menotti :P).[QUOTE="PannicAtack"][QUOTE="Ring_of_fire"] Speaking of Thomas Tallis.....you reminded me of this great piece: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8c3XvNZ3ns4 Fantasia on a theme of Thomas TallisHoly crap, I thought I was the only one on this forum who liked Menotti and Vaughan Williams. I'd suggest looking at "The Medium." It's short, but really, really good. One more: Menotti: "To This we've come"-From "The Consul"-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIB9cGlLkm0

I love this little number from the Jacques Offenbach opera 'The Tales of Hoffman' performed by Natalie Dessay.

It won a Grammy for best clas-sical (still, Gamespot?) crossover, and it's really good stuff. And if you like Latin I recommend Stile Antico--they're an a cappella group with several great albums.
