Because like rap and hip hop, some people just can't listen to anything else other than garbage.

That was NOT mean't to be offensive. I'm just giving my opinion based on what i've experienced.

Then you haven't experienced enough rap and hip hop. Hell, some producers have even worked with orchestras to make their music.

i think its a stupid fad and it needs to die. its killing music (especially spanish music), and i'm tired of hearing the same exact beat over and over (ex: "beat + gunshot sound + motorcycle engine revving + orgy + sex + talking about yourself + resemblence to rap = one pissed off dominican)

Depends on who you listen to. Don Omar has that tango mixed with salsa and reggaeton.

Wisin y Yandel have that same beat in every song.

Rakim y Ken-y are like Magnate, both singers and reggaetoneros.

Ivy Queen has more of a girly type of beat.

Tan cansado estoy de reggaeton. :|

The only thing I like about reggaeton, is salsaton and Bachateo, but that isn't saying much. The worst the reggaeton industry has ever done was remaking a urban tribute to Héctor Lavoe. :|

I'm glad, the latin record of the year for 2007 was Juan Luis Guerra's "La Llave de Mi Corazon" instead of some reggaeton song.

It's not exactly the same in every song, but, yeah most of them do have a similar sounding beat. It's called "Dem Bow" and it's what distinguishes reggaeton from the other genres of Latin music. I happen to like it though (reggaeton in general). Plus there's nothing like being at a party dancing to it with a frikitona. ;)

Oh believe me I've listened to it enough. I've been living with it around me almost everyday. I know some artists actually innovate and make great rap and hip hop and even reggaeton songs, but MOST of them are too much of the same crap.

Oh, it's not so bad. I hated it when it first started, but I kind of enjoy listening to it now. And the reason people make them rich is because they too enjoy it. I guess it seems fresh and new compared to whatever else is out there. Don't wory though, in PR the scene just exploded to the point that it was everywhere. But that was like a year or so ago. When I went back to visit there, it had pretty much settled and salsa, merengue and all the others were just as popular as they used to be.

It's not a ripoff of hip-hop/rap. Most of the influence of the music comes from a blend of dancehall and traditional Latin rhythmns.

Well, the "it's all the same crap" talk often comes from people who hate it, and thus don't know how to listen to it.
I've honestly no idea what reggaeton sounds like, but try asking an MTV listening person about Metal, I often hear "it's all just dudes screaming all the time, it sucks".
Possibly whomever told you that was just as well informed about reggaeton.

But if it's really as horrible as you say, then my respect for a specific person whom I thought had developed a good taste for themselves is going down down down. :P
