I find atheists trying to shove their beliefs down my throat more then religious people these days. Just saying.Toriko42
Actually this is the case with me as well. Heavy skeptics are bent on convincing me what a folly my very loose knit belief in "god" is.

As opposed to the Internet where you have atheist exposing theirs up your ass and getting as worked up about religion as religious extremeists and they are even worse to me because these ones pollute the places I actually enjoy visiting and frequent....like here for example where I rarely find these religious fanatics and the ones I do I really don't argue with.

Same here. :? Always making religion out to be the destruction of the universe. I myself have yet to come across one of those types of religious peoples. I've had like...3 couples of Jehova (sp) Witnesses come to my house and they weren't annoying at all. :D They gave us "The Passion of Christ" dvd too.

Passion of the Christ, eh? Nothing's going to convert you like watching a Jew dying for two hours. :P

That's the new breed of atheist. They're as bad as the religious nuts in my view, because they'd just as easily, ignorantly and belligerently hook on to dangerous ideas if popular opinion turned.

That was funny. Can't say I've ever watched that movie. I find Hollywood recreating the death of Christ pretty blasphemous. Maybe if a J-dub drops a copy off I'll look into it.

They come and visit a few times, but when you have too much counterpoint and alternitave theory they realize that you aren't a likely convert and they never stop by again, don't even say hi at the grocery store. Not very much like the friend they make themselves out to be at all. It doesn't hurt my feelings just seems kinda prickish.

I would say "lack of belief" rather than belief.

Unless you want to say "belief of unbelief..." But that doesn't really make much sense.

I can be a real jackass, so I'd probably just slam the door in their face.

what is so wrong with being polite though?

I'm just not a polite person when people bug me at home.

Ive only ever had one door to door preachy person come to my house, and they handed me a pamphlet and while they were talking to me I took out my lighter and lit it on fire. They looked at me, said have a nice day and left. Good times.

Well let's be honest - that's all the film is. I'm a big fan of Mel Gibson as a director, but Passion of the Christ was just a really expensive film about Mel's three favourite things - preaching about chrisitianity, torture and dropping sly anti-semitic references.

What really bugs me, is everyone is always complaining about how religion shoves ideologies and such down their throat, and yet no one complains that the media has too much influence over people : /

I normally run into Mormon missionaries. I don't mind them too much, they can be avoided if you really don't want to talk to them.

Why yes, and in return I have done the same thing to them in return. Eventually I get them to contridict themselves and then I've won. I guess.

I used to go to Catholic school but they liked to repent everything I found fun and so I left.

Now I've creatated my own religon and I'm xontent with it.

And my dad doesn't like people coming to our doorso he usually yells at anyone we don't know.

I don't think I've seen any preachers for a few years now....

[QUOTE="ariz3260"]Without going too deeply into this, I would say Buddhism teaches you the importance of "right mind" and "right action" and how they reinforce one another. It deals more with how one handles daily situation rather than debating how the universal was created or if Buddha was real. Buddhism teaches you a living philosophy

Saturos3091

Indeed, much like (LaVeyan) Satanism. I find Buddhism to have many beliefs that I can agree on as well. It's like taking the "religion" and applying it directly to your life in almost every conceivable way, which is what I find to be the most appealing thing about these "religions."

I haven't heard of this LaVeyan Satanism before, it certainly sound interesting enough that I should look more into it.

To be fair, when Buddhism and Christianity were form, I doubt the creator of these religions (Buddha and Jesus) intended for it to become the organized religions in the form we witness today . Their teachings were base on how to go about one's business in a daily setting. Last I check they don't require their follower to go to the temple or church to be a worshipper once a week. True religious pratitioners, rather than preaching their believes, they live it and be the examples for others to follow. I tend to find the people that preach the loudest are those that has the least amount of substance when they talk, hardly an example I want to emulate.

When people usually come to my door to preach their religion, I usually say I'm late for my devil worshipping.

They leave instantly.

As a Jehovah's Witness, I can say that we don't give out copies of Passion of the Christ at peoples doors.(huge lol's) I go to people's doors to talk about the bible, and it's difficult because I find that a lot of people are rude when I'm trying to be nice. We're not trying to convert but rather give people a bible education and let them choose what they want to do with their life after they learn the bible. Sorry, if I annoyed anyone by waking you up in the morning.:P But we really don't go to your doors because we have nothing better to do, we just follow Jesus admonition to preach the word of God's Kingdom so that's what we do.

Instead of going to peoples doors and lettign them know you should try a more public forum. People will convert if they want to convert not because you are telling them the benefits of it. That only breeds anger. You are turning people away from your religion rather than pulling them toward it.

This. Absolutely this. It's one thing to advertise one's religion, another to be aggressive about it.

I'm not aggressive about it. If someone isn't interested, I smile and say "okay have a great day" and I don't come back. I don't see why offering someone a free home bible study breeds anger? If they say no, I'll leave em alone, I'm not pushy at all. And truthfully, I don't enjoy going knocking on your doors but it's nice to get someone who really wants to learn what the bible teaches.
