First, it's not THE economy, it's an economy.

naydaslayer

Are you participating in some separate isolated economy? This sort of reminds me of the whole, utterly bogus, "new economy" pundits during the dot com boom.

Erm, what? Japan has an economy, so does China, UK, US, Canada, Mexico, etc.

There is one global economy; the mortgage crisis here has produced worldwide effects. I'm sure you are aware of this...

Sorry if you've already seen this, but here's a hilarious video. Armey picks up on this woman's phony outrage over Rush Limbaugh and completely destroys her argument. Why should Republicans apologize for what people in the media do or say? You don't hear Republicans asking Obama to apologize for comments from Kanye West or some entertainment figure.

Whatever, just watch:

Although your argument is correct, comparing Kayne West to Rush Limbaugh? Bit of a stretch, even for you.

[QUOTE="mysterylobster"][QUOTE="KB1ankenship"]

If Rush is someone without any influence on the Republican party, then why did congressman Phil Gingrey have to go on Rush's show and grovel for his forgivness after he publicly disagreed with Rush?nocoolnamejim

I still don't see what that has to do with whether Republicans should apologize to Obama for things Rush said. Do you think people in the media don't influence Democrats? Look at Oprah. Would you demand that a Democratic Congressman apologize for something Oprah says? People are saying Armey didn't have an argument, but what sort of argument is "the Republicans lick Limbaugh's boots, and therefore should apologize to Obama for things he says on the air"?

Now, see what you did there? Assertion by mysterylobster: They weren't having a serious discussion so it was okay for Rep Armey to belittle, patronize and attack the woman personally Comment by Jim: They were discussing the level of Rush's influence on the Republican party. Hence, the woman was on point and Armey was out of line Assertion by mysterylobster: Rush's influence on the Republican party is overblown Counterpoint by KB1ankenship: If that's so then why do Republican Congressmen go on his show and grovel to him Tactical Change of Subject by mysterylobster: Republicans shouldn't have to apologize for something Rush said.

That's not a change of subject. Go back to my original post; that was my main argument all along. Armey didn't become totally dismissive of her argument until she turned it to the subject of Republicans apologizing to Obama for things Rush said. That's when it became less a policy discussion and more a typical liberal "moral outrage" rant. That's the argument that provoked what you call "patronizing" comments, not the discussion of whether Rush is king of the Republicans.

Please. You know you have a crappy argument when the best thing you can do is make sexist statements.

the guy is a **** and he and the other republicans who cry redistribution for some reason aren't upset over the redistribution of millions in tax cuts to the upper class while my neighborhood got less than $500 (edit: per family). I'm glad obama is letting the bush tax cuts expire, good riddance.

I never said he showed how to debate a liberal, I said "deal" with a liberal. I think even Chrissy Matthews realized at one point there was no point debating with this woman. All he had to do is expose her as a political hack and be done with her. Mission accomplished.

Sorry for dwelling on this, but i feel the need to just deconstruct this post, because it's wrong in practically every aspect.

1) You reference the video as "hilarious" when literally nothing about it whatsoever is funny

2) Her "outrage" is most likely not of the "phony" variety, as while one might comment on the internet or in the paper on your outrage, i doubt you'd take the act all the way to appearing on television. She, like many people, obviously wasn't happy with Rush's (incredibly stupid) comments.

3) "Completely destroys her argument" - your claim. And absolute nonsense. Not only does he not "destroy" her argument, he barely presents any argument whatsoever. If talking her down with borderline sexist comments about being glad she isn't his wife along with "give it a rest" are your idea of brilliant arguments...

The only argument he really puts forward is "politics is silly", basically saying that discussions about politics are fickle and inane and we should ignore them. That's one point of view, not an amazingly genius piece of debating is it? Let's apply it to the facts:

"I hope the president fails!"

a) That's offensive, unpatriotic and ignorant - you should apologise

b) Meh, we should ignore this. It's no big deal

Simply two points of view my friend, neither of which is substantially more credible than the other. And one certainly does not "destroy" the other like you claim.

4) And finally, comparing a political commentator with at least SOME influence over a government party to Kanye West is laughable.

I think you set out to make a post having a jab at liberals but couldn't find any decent subject matter to base it off.

[QUOTE="mysterylobster"][QUOTE="Ninja-Hippo"]Wasn't really that funny. He basically insulted and belittled her. :?Ninja-Hippo
If you go on a show with an argument like hers, you should expect to be called a hack.

What was so completely outrageous about her arguement exactly? :|

I'll give this one a crack. The fact that she blamed the sub-prime mortgage crises, which has its roots in the early nineties and seriously flawed legislation, on a single man who was never in a position to create such a crises. The fact that she expects "any republican" to apologise for the actions of a talk show pundit. The fact that she blames republicans for obstructing an individual trying to pass even more seriously flawed legislation. The fact that she characterizes all republicans as sycophants who always agree with said talk show pundit. Those are all pretty inane comments and they all demonstrate a lack of knowledge or reason respectively.

You missed my earlier post. I said that already. I disagree with her view that Bush is to blame. He isn't, though he certainly didn't help. That comment isn't what lobster is addressing though; he's talking about her point that an apology should be made for Rush's comments that he hopes Obama fails, which like i said, isn't hopelessly outrageous or hilarious like lobster tries to make it out to be. You may disagree, but just as many people would side with her that republicans shouldn't have this mouthpiece spouting off such comments.

You would be right if the person asked to apologize was the person who made the comment.

Well I wasn't addressing your arguments, just pointing out her absurd arguments. Rush is not the king of republicans. He is an individual and right now people are using him to demonize a political party. If I was a member of that party I would not accept those characterizations which are running wild across the media. So her demand that republicans should apologize for Rush is absurd.

As an aside:I did not find the segment particularly funny, and I certainly would not have gone the ad hominem route like Mr. Armey did.

Is this your tactic? Say someone said something they never said, and when they say they never said it, flash this quote?

I am sorry I can't take republicans seriously after the republican Convention.. "Do you accept/believe in Biological Evolution?" .... Why people like Coulter and Limbaugh are even talked about is beyond me, they are stupid extremists.. On a side note, there is entirely too much apologizing in this damn media.. WHO THE HELL cares, seriously I feel like I am in elementry school again with a teacher looking over me to apologize to the other kid I kicked..

But you did say it. :? You glorified his little dance as a hilarious, saying he completely destroyed her argument and left her defeated, then when i say i disagree that it's an amazing show of debating like the OP claims, you split hairs and claim you never said that when that's exactly what you were doing; attempting to glorify a republican "dealing" with a liberal. Only it backfired on you because i dont see any meaningful posts here in agreement that he put up any form of impressive or decisive argument whatsoever.

EDIT: and going back to my post on page 1 - it should really hit home to you how ridiculous i think the OP was, because like i said, i dont even agree with what the woman had to say. Doesn't that say something? That i agree with you that she was wrong and i'm still here arguing that your post was illogical and misguided?

What was impressive was how easily he exposed her as a hack whose outrage at Republicans was nothing more than a cheap political ploy. I agree that there was little in the way of back and forth debate, which is why I said he showed how to deal with a liberal rather than debate a liberal. The later is pointless 90 percent of the time.

I wonder if this woman was asking Obama to apologize for Reverend Wrong or unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers. Or maybe her phony outrage is only directed at Republicans.

But he gets kudos for having an awesome name, and at 2:20 or so he said "I am so damn happy youre not my wife..." I lol'd so hard right there.

It's not funny. It's a man belittling a woman, using infantile phrases, without giving any legitimate points. I don't see what's so funny.
