A Richard Simmons camp? I think they already exist.I wonder how long before we get "Richard Camp."

I don't think they needed to call it an Athiest Camp. They said that they weren't trying to impose anything on the kids, and it acts as a regular camp. Why not just call it a Summer Camp?
Cause Richard Dawkins is a douche and everything he does has to have something to do with disproving religion, or making a mocker of it.I don't think they needed to call it an Athiest Camp. The name does give completely the wrong impression. But then they wouldn't be getting any media attention, would they?
I am hoping you did the *snap* *headswing* when you said that. Otherwise you wouldn't be considered a true fan.A Richard Simmons camp would be pretty fabulous.

[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]For atheists yea I suppose, which is sad. Not really. Just like Jesus Camp isn't a good thing for Christians... To me the whole point and reason I like being an atheist is not being lumped up and labeled something and this **** is the opposite. And this is a good thing?

To be honest, shipping your kids off to any kind of camp to get rid of them for a few weeks isn't good in my eyes.
Considering every time I went to a summer camp as a kid I had Christianity shoved down my throat, I do not see the problem with providing a comparable experience for those who are not religious. I do not see why either side is so threatened by every move of the other.

Meh. I think I read in Time that there were some Athiest Sunday schools.
Theokhoth
There are atheist churches.
Yes. It's slowly becoming an accepted "religion". Which makes me wonder what happens next.[QUOTE="Theokhoth"]

I suspect it would be rather hilarious to watch it back to back with "Jesus Camp."
It'd be funnier if they just went ahead and called it "Dick Camp."
Also, I've always wondered how "Dick" is derived from "Richard."

I just don't get it. Whatever happened to camp with NO philosophical component? These are KIDS, for Pete's sake. Let them have fun. No need to cram your philosophical beliefs down their throats...

Hmm... I don't think that's the primary consideration in most parents' eyes. Camp can be an extremely fun thing for children. Many of them look forward to going in the summer as much as they look forward to Christmas.

They're young and easily influenced. It's for their own good, remember, to save them from the devil!Hmm... I don't think that's the primary consideration in most parents' eyes. I'd rather spend some quality time with my kids than ship them off to someone else (possibly a bit of a nutter armed with a holy book), but like you say, that might not be the primary consideration for some parents.

That's a long sentence. :(
I realized that after I wrote it; would it be better reformulated as "Extremists always make moderates with similar leanings look goofy"? Probably not :( Slightly more concise, though![QUOTE="Shhadow_Viper"]

I agree entirely. There's a time for a bit of summer fun for kids, and there is a time to educate them. Some people like to kill two birds with one stone I suppose.[QUOTE="mentalabc123"]

I kinda wish I could just go to summer camps again instead of having to take summer classes. I always looked forward to going to various Boy Scout camps over the summer, but now that I'm 18, it's not really going to be the same again.[QUOTE="pianist"][QUOTE="mentalabc123"]

Like the old saying goes, you're only young once. I understand that feeling. But there are a lot of things you can do now that you couldn't or wouldn't have enjoyed as a youngster.
