So, Rick Santorum said this, ""I don't want to make black peoples' lives better by giving them somebody else's money. I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn the money and provide for themselves and for their families." Funny how his mind goes straight to blacks when talking about welfare even tho blacks don't make up the majority on welfare.

And now he's trying to damage controlling by saying this, ""I looked at that, and I didn't say that. If you look at it, what I started to say is a word and then sort of changed and it sort of — blah — came out. And people said I said 'black.' I didn't."

Riiiight....

He is a racist... That is alls that is and if you put him on stage with President Obama you will see what a vile man he is.

Actually you do not even have to put santorum on stage, just google his name and reveal the mountains of filth he exudes.

It's not a sterotype if its always true. They may not make the majority but the majority of blacks are on it. Maybe its just because I live in low income apartments with a dense black population.

Yeah, this might not harm him too much in the primary, but it is indicative of the larger picture - that Santorum is an idiot. I honestly am having trouble seeing how Romney doesn't win the nomination at this point.

the damage control won't work (or it will snowball with other damage) and he will lose his recent support to Jon Huntsman. Or so the history of this election cycle has indicated.

Not all blacks are on welfare and not all people that are on welfare are black, so it doesn't make sense to single them out.

Why are you trying to defend this?

Huntsman doesn't count as a not-Romney.

Criteria are as follows:

-Double-digit IQ

-Be exciting; be loud; be controversial

-Hate the liberal mainstream media with all thy body and mind

-Have a closet full of skeletons

First of all, it doesn't really make sense that there would be a "bleh/blah" in that statement unless he was trying to say a word that has the letters "bl" in it but didn't follow through.

But he did say black.

Everyone knew that Santorum wouldn't be a nominee. He's made far too many controversial remarks in the past to not get slaughtered by attack ads. There's a reason why googling his last name gets you a very offensive definition.

Certainly, but considering who the populist wing of the party has supported so far in this cycle, it's none too surprising.

It kind of sounds like he was trying to think of a polite way to say black but gave up in order to stop stuttering. So his heart really wasn't behind the word black and it sounded weird.

At best he didn't follow through, but I suggest you watch this again as he clearly didn't say Black. Maybe he meant it and stopped, but no he didn't say it. I have watched this 6 times now, no...just no. Doesn't matter, he wouldn't win anyway. You want something to attack him on that is more solid? http://www.cnn.com/2012/01/05/opinion/obeidallah-santorum-sharia/index.html?hpt=hp_t2 Read that.....There is a video where he says our laws need to be inline with God's laws.....

Well, yes, he is problematic in many ways, but I've watched the video several times and while he did hesitate while saying it and while it did come out strange, it is obvious what he meant to say. There's nothing else that remotely makes sense.

It's not the worst comment I've ever heard about black people (tho the mentality that black people are somehow intrinsically tied with welfare is a terrible one and it is racist IMO) and I'm not neccesarily trying to attack him because I'm not a political campaign. I just find his damage control funny.

We all attack politicians we don't like, word of mouth its fine...I do it in order to sway anybody I can. It sounded a little odd, he may not have said what he meant as it stuttered a bit. I am not defending him, just saying it didn't sound like black to me.Lots of stereotypes exist, I would be more concerned about his base then him...If one guys is a racist religious zealot who cares? But if he has a million followers.....Thats scary.

I do agree that it's problematic that alot of people is supporting a candidate like Santorum.

There are more blacks proportional to their overall population on welfare, but how in the world does that justify his comment? :?Most people on welfare are not black, so if you're trying to make a comment about giving money to people, it makes no sense to single out black people because the majority of the money going out would not be going to blacks.

Why does he even need to mention black people? Are black people some kind of pressing 2012 issue? :?

I remember reading on how the American people were scared about how JFK was going to take orders from the pope.

They don't seem scared now.

What you heard was him trying to say "people's" and "lives" at the same time... and it came as "pleh." You all know exactly what I'm talking about because we've all done it ourselves. Also, considering this is from the Washington Post I'm not surprised. He didn't say blacks, but that's what the liberal media wants everyone to think. You talk about how scary it is for this guy to have followers. What about the followers of the liberal media? They just believe whatever it is that people like Al Sharpton, Ed Schultz, and Rachel Maddow have spewing out of their mouths. This is just another example of how dead journalism is. The overall point he was making in the video was dead on though. The welfare system is setup so that people keep holding their hand out, and in return they vote for the guy who's going to get them the most stuff. Reminds of the bad guy from Fast Five when he talks about what happened when Spain and Portugal came to South America to take over the land. That's exactly how the left works/thinks. The sad part is that it has worked for so long, and now here we are. We can blame Social Security for getting the ball rolling.

[QUOTE="GreySeal9"]

Rick Santorum is ******* clown shoes, no question there, but still. I'm thinking you're stretching things a bit.

You might as well tell me how I'm stretching things.

[QUOTE="QuistisTrepe_"][QUOTE="DroidPhysX"]The fact that the Republican electorate is considering him is frightening.scorch-62
Iowa

Yet it remains to be seen whether Iowa was just a fluke.

Yeah I find it very odd. Santorums support increases by 700% in 2 weeks just in time for the Iowa caucus?

To be fair, blacks are disproportionately reliant on it compared to other races.

cause of what I said.

What you said doesn't justify his comment and you haven't played why it has. "Cause of what I said" doesn't cut it.

I suppose he could've instead said something like "I don't want to make the lives of people who are on welfare any better by giving them somebody else's money.... " as opposed to singling out the black community.

For Santorum to try and deny it is blatant disregard for his own mistake as he would rather put his head in the sand about it than man up and admit that he slipped. Reminds me of Cheney denying his allegation of Mohammed Atta being in Prague, Czech having been "well confirmed".

He said this in a state where over 80% of the people who receive welfare are white.

Why can't the GOP find someone who is normal for once? I'm not muchof an Obama fan either, but come on! Most of these candidates seem like they are either just as bad or even worse in some cases. All I can say is that this election year is going to suck, no one good to vote for....
