What you said doesn't justify his comment and you haven't played why it has. "Cause of what I said" doesn't cut it.

GreySeal9

Cave's quite keen on taking this kind of approach. He won't argue against your point with a decent rebuttal, though I'd love to see him prove me wrong.

Oh look, another Republican candidate who gets hyped as a serious contender only to shoot themselves in the foot.

Does that mean Huntsman can peak at exactly the right time? Please? They've given everyone else a shot. :(

The guy's an idiot. Here's an article/video of him being asked questions about gay marriage by college students. He cannot even answer the first question asked - "How does it affect you?" and keeps jumping to the polygamy argument (the tired old "if we legalize gay marriage, then why not marriage between three people?" argument)

In the video, he keeps bringing up "should 3 people be able to marry then?" anytime a student tries to ask a question about why gays shouldn't be able to marry.

The slippery slope argument that people like Santorum use is so tired. Just because Santorum and his ilk can't separate two different things doesn't mean everybody has that problem.

Yes, but the argument makes absoluetly no f*cking sense whatsoever.

EDIT: I suppose this explains it:

I'm just a little surprised that someone could say that with utter sincerity. Am I overreacting a bit?

Exactly. You can hear students in the audience trying to say "that's irrellevant" and "that's not what we're talking about" but he just ignores them. Somehow it makes sense in his head.

You're not overreacting but I've heard that argument way too many times to be surprised at this point.

For people like this, I always wonder how they would feel if a gay man, who is forced to hide his preferences (or goes through one of those ridiculous conversion programs) marries his daughter. Would he want his daughter married to someone who would really rather be with a man?

This is what I think. There are a surprising amount of people that still have this mindset.

He clearly said black.

GreySeal9

No, no he didn't. I have watched this 4 times and it still sounds closer to blah.

First of all, it doesn't really make sense that there would be a "bleh/blah" in that statement unless he was trying to say a word that has the letters "bl" in it but didn't follow through.

But he did say black.

I don't know. I'm no fan of Santorum, but I'm listening to this with audiophile quality headphones and I'm not hearing the word "black"...

Not sure. Sounds like he was just talking too fast and got tongue tied for a second.

What? you can tell he said black, sounded just like part of his accent and talking quickly put together.

I must need my ears checked then because I'm simply not hearing it. Almost sounds like what he is saying starts with a "w" sound. Furthermore, he preceded that sentence by saying something like "they're pushing to get more of YOU dependent on them so they can get your vote". He was clearly talking about the people in the audience (who are as white as snow) and it doesn't make sense that the word "black" would even be in there. Again, I'm no Santorum fan and I don't like defending him, but this just appears to be grasping at straws to me.

A "w" sound? I don't hear that at all. It is clearly a "bl" sound and I can hear black but it's just a little garbled due to hesitation.

I'm aghast at anyone defending this because they didn't hear the final, hard 'k' sound in the word black. It was said and 'blah/bleh' or whatever makes absolutely no sense in the context of what he's saying. Now who's reaching?

I burst out laughing when I read the posts that claimed he said "bleh" instead of "black". I'm still laughing.
