The trailer does give off a similar vibe to the first half of Alien, so it does look promising. As much as I love Alien, hopefully this one won't turn into a monster slasher where the crew get taken out one by one. It probably will.

Have people actually ever watched the Previous Alien (Namely the first two) films and noticed alot of the violence happened off-screen?

PandaTrueno86

I wonder if they will tone down the sexual imagery that was, although not explicit, prevalent in Alien. I want to see vagina heads. In fact, head sex would have been a much more creative way for the aliens to breed. Screw you Cameron and your queen idea.

Ridley Scott's movies never ever lacked technical marvel - his entire career was practically dedicated to pushing the boundary of production quality. but sadly, he hasn't been all that impressive on the originality front.

i don't know.... . this film... looks like yet another of those.

What? are you guys serious? it looks just as one of those cliche space movies where the black guy dies first. Seriously why are people hyping this?

I want another horror film. Alien is easily the best of the current quadrilogy, and arguably one of the greatest cross-genre films of all time.

 FYI though... iirc white guys always died first in previous Alien-related films.

but yea... i kinda agree. Scott seemed to have reached his artistic peak back in Blade Runner, which was hands down ground breaking in every way. since then, he had more misses than hits. :( i thought Matchstick Man was the only impressive film he made in the past decade or so.

Don't get me wrong, I freaking love Alien, but I think the premise of the film has far more potential than just another slasher movie that the second half of Alien was (although done really well). I want another Ridley Scott Sci-fi horror, just maybe not another Alien.

Why are people hyping Ridley Scott's (Blade Runner, Alien) return to sci-fi with an 'Alien-like' action-horror/thriller with a casting including Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Patrick Wilson, Idris Elba anf Guy Pearce? I can only assume you are not serious or clueless.

as much as i love Gladiator... it's really just one of those blockbuster epicss heavy on production values but with little to no soul. he made a ton of those films in the same vein before and after that - 1492, Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven, etc.

Scott has made films in popular genres with better cast and still failed to deliver. case in point - Robin Hood.

Not sure how that matters. His best and most recognized films are still "Blade Runner" and "Alien", hence why his return to that particular genre has been highly anticipated.

They're filming a PG-13 and an R rated version and Fox will decide where to go from there.

SaintLeonidas

Gotcha. So even if it is released in theaters at PG-13, then there is hope for a Directors Cut edition on DVD.

It is Ridley Scott, no matter the rating, we are going to get a Directors Cut.

His director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven turned his "meh" movie into a great movie IMO.

wouldn't call it "not artistic" - that's a pretty subjective word afterall. it entertains at all the right parts, as any epic should. but i felt it falls short on creating a human drama with relatable characters and situations. it's really just a vehicle for setpieces - although they are undeniably very well done.

Sweet, I was just talking about this earlier. I'm kind of curious where this stands in the Alien series, I heard it was initially a prequel. Though for all I know it could be a sequel, like they went after this after the incident of Aliens, after the reactor blast. I'm curious where it is in the series timeline because I sat through the presentation of Aliens: Colonial Marines at PAX and they seemed quite excited to work with Aliens franchise and pretty much create a new story or continuing story in the universe, it takes place after the incident of Aliens and basically the alien ship carrying the eggs is left intact and starts a brand new infestation. Anyhow, I guess Prometheus could still be a prequel, I mean after all by Alien the Weyland Yutani corporation had special orders regarding the xenomorph, I'd rather a good story make them aware of this by then to disregard the crap given to us during AVP2.

Rewatched 'Alien' tonight, realized that the circular "craft" in which they find the eggs in 'Alien' is the same one in the 'Prometheus' trailer being shot down and rolling towards Theron and Rapace. It is also where the Space Jockey was. So it makes me wonder if what they find in 'Prometheus' is then reported back to earth and then the crew in 'Alien' is unknowingly sent to bring back what was found.

Gladiator? Man thats a harsh comment. Think its one of the best movies of last decade.

For this prequel reboot, there's no real point, but if anyone can do Alien, its Ridley Scott.

Yeah, I fear it will be just a cliché, action packed, non-intelligent blockbuster. Not that there's anything wrong with it, because they can be fun too. But those space jockeys are perfect ingredients for a moody sci-fi film full of weirdness and wonder, rather than guns and explosions. Fingers crossed!

I'm still hoping that someday, Arthur C. Clarke's Odyssey quadrilogy will be completed on film. I loved 2001 and 2010 and I really hope that 2061 and 3001 will see the light of day eventually. I love films that make you think and wonder.

I wonder what's the role of the giant UFO:

It's not the Space Jockey ship. Some people speculate this is the "beginning of time" scene where the aliens bring life to Earth. I hope it's more than that.

For a moment I thought they're different but then I realised the left "arm" of the first pic is the right one below.

Now I'm confused by the lack of smoke in the third image:|

I read and it kind of looks to me like 2001/2010 combines with Alien and something more sinister possibly like Event Horizon or something but on the planet. Looks like something I would pay to see at the theater in 3D.

Off topic, but your sig perfectly embodies Gamespot's OT to a 'T'... lol
