No, not at all. Sure, there are a ton of terrible bands out there, but there's tons of amazing ones as well. I think Muse is one of the best bands out of the past 20 years of music.

Not at all; it is just easier for talentless "musicians" to get record deals these days. There is still a lot of talent in the music industry; you just have to know where to find it.

Not in the slightest. Now stop listening to the garbage on the radio and actually look for music, there is still plenty of good stuff.

Let me be the first to say I completely agree. Since the early 90's music is dead, and I don't even listen to Western music.

Brokencyde is doing their part to help repair the damage done to the music industry. Soon all music will sound just like them, even country.

If you are talking about rap music, in my opinion yes it is somewhat dead in the mainstream era. Rap was best in the late 80's and early 90's.

I'd agree with you if I were still in my adolescence and thought cla ssic rock was amazing, tastes change though, and music today has some very powerful emotion and meanings, you just have to look deeper to find the bands that actually know how to convey emotion and meanings.

Claiming any genre of music is dead is ignorance in itself, to think the entire art (or enough to even feel it's safe to make such a blanket statement) is, is ludicrous. How close minded does one have to be? What little amount of music does one listen to?

Oh I like NWA a lot but Ice Cube's solo albums, Dr. Dre's solo albums, and Eazy E's solo work combined did far more for Hip Hop then Straight Outta Compton

The Chronic and The Chronic 2001 had made Hip Hop what it is in terms of production and Ice Cube raised the bar of what being an MC meant with albums like Death Certificate, The Predator, and Amerikkka's Most Wanted

Granted, all of those Ice Cube albums came out in the early 90's but Straight Outta Compton is only part of a larger picture

It is a matter of opinion. NWA, 2Pac, Biggie, Nas, Big L, Mic Geronimo, Public Enemy, Big Pun and the list goes on. NWA was one of the most influence gangsta rap to be found in the late 80's and early 90's. Because of them, Dr.Dre, Ice Cube solo albums appeared. Let's not forget Wu tang aswell! Your list are good too, I like Cormega and Sene. never heard of Fashawn, Wale and Blu. I'll check them out.

I like your knowledge of "real" Hip Hop music. Haven't seen one gspotter for a while or probably never. Need to be more active, but isn't 1994 considered to be early though? But right.. You beat me into it. x)

ihavenonickname
I will say overall quality of music yes. Its probably because people are stupid. They except mediocrity as the norm right now(this can be said for a lot of things nowadays to). There are so many crappy bands these days its not even funny. Yet people think and claim they are good. Ive been saying music overall has been on the decline for the last few years. I listen to a lot of different genres of music. So i have a pretty good taste of everything. I may not like a band but I will never say a talented band sucks. Just because I dont like their music doesnt make them less of great players. I will also even say that I listen to bands that talent wise are very mediocre at best. That doesnt mean I wont enjoy them. Plus ive been a musician(jazz saxophone) for 10 years now. I listen to a lot of great bands. Im also a music major. I look at music completely different than your average joe on the street. I will laugh at people who tell me so and so band is good. With all that I have said there are still great bands and musicians out there. Chris Potter a jazz saxophonist doing things that should even be done on that horn. It is ungodlike. Sure I maybe looking at a different genre there but that is still music.

Pop music≠overall quality of music. Modern pop music makes up a tiny fraction of music overall...and aside from it, music as a whole is as good as ever.

There's tons of great stuff.Eric Whitacre is a good composer. Does a lot of really unique choral music.

And really, if you're nostalgic, that's what old stuff is for.
