I've looked at the stats, but it's kind of funny because in the early ninetees mainstream rap wasn't of a vocally violent or deviant nature at all yet you say that's why there was a spike. Try again.
The mainstream rap was as bad in the early ninetess. The biggest stars like Will Smith and Run DMC weren't as bad, but ICE T, Public Enemy, and Eazy E certainly were. And rap was mainstream at that time.
Public Enemy weren't violent, ICE T did the theme song for the movie colors(Which was a anti gang movie) and he said it himself that he hates the gang lifestyle. Alsomostof these rappers just make these songs so people will know how ad it is and try to keep people out of trouble. Although some don't look at it this way(both fans and haters) .
There you go with the excuses. "Public Enemy" is a Christian rock band. Ice T never sang "Cop Killer". A rapper sang an excuse ridden, apology song so he's your best friend now. We're almost back full circle again.

A few artist which you see fit into the offending "bad" mainstream are able to create such a spike, if I catch your point correctly. Ignoring the still numerous amounts of artists during the time of the early 90's who still preached W.E.B. Dubois type of philosophy to life in underprivileged areas, those three, four, five artists made the spike, am I correct? You said that if we keep it as a 'cult following' then there won't be a crime problem. Thing is, it's been a cult following since the late 70's. It was only mainstrem to those who weren't already exposed to it in those already high crime areas. In the ghettos. It started out as a soundtrack, not a cause, of the problems in these areas that still exist to this day.
Please learn to quote people...this thread is hideous. Keep them shorter, please.
FPS, rap doesn't cause crime okay? There are plenty of stories about Rammstein, Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, KMFDM (or whatever) inspiring murders that can argue the other side. If you're going to say rap causes crime don't leave out the other side.

The people I mentioned were merely examples. Rap mainstream = Even higher black crime rates. The statistics are very clear. There will be no further debate. Goodbye.

Translation: Screw you guys. I'm taking my ball and going home.
You can't throw an opinionated observation with facts and then call it a "direct correlation".

[QUOTE="Aljosa23"]This topic is going around in circles. Can we all agree that Mainstream Rap sucks?leegar88
How do you like the game and think mainstream sucks  . And what about NAS, Kanye, bone thugs, lupe, andpapoose they are good mainstream rappers.
I was talking about the BET/MTV stuff like Soulja Boy and Hurricane Chris :P. Sorry if you guys got confused.2)Your music must suck
PickGlove243
I hope that, by that, you aren't implying that good music needs what the other guy mentioned to be considered good... because none of that crap makes music good. In fact, most of it had nothing at all to do with the music, but rather the culture surrounding it.

And before I get blasted for being hypocrital for my screename being "FPSGunnerDude". I do agree that's bad too, but gamespot won't let you change your name. And there is a differance between video games and real violence. Rappers are actually talking about murder in theREAL WORLDandpeople REALLY ARE being murdered more often by black people. 54% of the murders in the USA are done by blacks. I don't find that cool or fun one bit.FPSGunnerDude
And what percent of white people are convicted of mutli-billion dollar corperate crimes?

Extremely few in comparison.

lemme re-say that. Out of all the multi-billion dollar corperate crimes, how many of those people are white?

Oh, you got us there...Rap and murder away!
Rock>Rap I just hate rap, i like rock especially metal because that requiures skill like guitar skillz and drumming skills. Most rap is just about gangs and violence while metal isnt, Look at H.I.M its all metal but they are almost all love songs! Megadeth is thrash and is all about politics with biblical themes. Cannibal Corpse which i dislike is all about bloody murder and killing babys, so you can say it involves violence. Shadows fall is uplifting and so is Killswitch engage which can lift you up on a blue day.
I never insulted rap, id rather listen to it than country and i repect it

Funny thing is all the stores you hear on the news about people going on murderous rampages are non-black people (virginia tech, colombine, etc)

I can't argue with that. The national media DOES NOT cover black crimes. I have no idea why.

You see what? Black crimes reported on the national news is what we're talking about. And they are completely underreported. They tell as about Scott Peterson for years, but next to nothing about blacks committing 54% of the murders.
