I say they are to different genres and they can't be compared. leegar88
thank you for saying that.
I like both, so yeah.
One type of music isn't just better than another. You can prefer one, but neither is more artistic, requires more talent, or is just better.
I like everything except metal and country really. I listen to rock, hip hop, classical, opera, musical, emo, punk, electronica...It's all good.
Comparing the two is illogical to me.

I know what you mean! One is awesome and one sucks.
Rock is better.

il say rap... but i hate 50 cent, eminmem, fizzy dizzy whatever.... all popular rap sucks. chances are if you say there name and somebody reconises it then the musics gonna suck.
mr.lif, mf doom, c-rayz walz , murs anyone? jux music rules!
but i agree with what alot of the other people said. comparing rock and rap is dumb. at least compare sub-genres. however then again they are two total opposites, perhaps we are simple deciding on which end of the music scale we are on :). however i would have said dance, or beats. rap is simple lyrics over a beat. beats on there own can be called dance, house ,techno, etc, another set of music i love ^^

Most of the rap they play on the radio lately sucks, if you listened to some of the older stuff you might not think it sucked. But it is your opinion whether or not you like it.
Rock because it has a more diverse sound and better singers.Film-Guy
now i hate to get all judge mental. i believe in opinion. but "more diverse sound"... rock works on guitars and drums. you must agree that you can get more out of computerised beats than two musical instruments.

Well computers can produce pretty much any sound, but I prefer the actual instrument.
[QUOTE="B05T0N"]Both genres*, if he listened to the best of both he'd most likely still feel the same way.
That's far from reflective of the whole genre. Nice job!KiIIyou
yet then we can argue whats "best" for each genre. and by that we get no where

The thing is that rap one talks about two things. And the beat is the same the whole song. Rock has a lot more to it.

But on the radio it's near impossible to hear anything good from either of the two genres mentioned, for me it is anyway. I just like to assume that's the way it is everywhere else. What does having white skin have to do with anything. I'm white, I listen to rap; my bro is white, he likes rap; my bro's friends are mostly white and they like rap.i'm not surprised since this place is full of white people(not to be racist).
1.hip hop
2.rock
3.rap

I don't get the first part of what you said, but rap mostly focuses on the lyrics, but I think I have heard a few rap songs where they switch up the beat.

You say that like you can only get one sound from each instrument.

I refute that.
De La Soul - Eye Know
GZA - I Gotcha Back
Run-DMC - King of Rock
Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg - Nuthin But a G Thing
Gang Starr - Take a Rest
Digable Planets - Blackitolism
Beastie Boys - Sounds of Science (sorry about the video don't watch it)
Rakim - Juice
Why do people constantly draw a comparison here? I don't understand it.
Whether or not one is better than the other depends entirely on each and every persons individual concepts of quality music. Neither genre is undeniably better than the other. Hence this is so silly.

I'm not trying to bash rap, but I'm tired of hearing about banging chicks, and running from the cops, and that AYE, OH, AYE, OH, AYE, OH bullcrap. The stations here play rock from the 80's to now.

I think rap wins in that respect.
