the question is, why is everyone in a tizzy over this? people are way to sensitive these days. how about you focus your anger at theWestboro baptist church who will be protesting at his funeral, instead of what some washed up, old film snob says on a twitter post?

IMO he didn't earn any respect with what he did. LJS9502_basic
I agree completely. I personally think he's done lots of stuff that earned him the opposite. He's been asking for this for years. >.>

[QUOTE="FPSunionOWNS"][QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"] Nope. It's not wrong. And why was he reading it? LJS9502_basic
Maybe one of his friends called him and said im sorry for your loss by the way you hear what roger ebert said?

So? Then it's his fault for reading it. Celebrities are in the spotlight...both the good and the bad. What Dunn did was reprehensible and should not be ignored. Perhaps it can serve as a warning and maybe save some lives.

No its Eberts fault for writing it, and i didnt say what he did shouldnt be ignored but how about not commented on so soon i mean come on man!

So you believe in censorship? Again...he wasn't forced to read the Twitter...he chose to do so. And don't think that's the only comment going to be made about what he did. I feel no sympathy...except for the family of the passenger.

I'd say so. I certainly look down upon drunk driving. And Dunn's decision killed both himself and another person. But there is a time and place for everything. Ebert's comments were very insensitive.

It's not Ebert's "fault" for writing it.

It was his choice. There is quite literally nothing wrong with pointing out that drinking and driving is a stupid thing to do. And it makes sense that you might point it out soon after some one dies from doing that stupid thing.

So how long after a person dies do we have to wait before we can point out that their death was a result of their own bad choices?

I have no problem with him criticizing that behavior. It was extremely irresponsible. But he did so in such a callous and heartless way that any message of responsibility was lost. And Ebert is somewhat of a hypocrite as he has defended similar behavior in the past.

He wasn't the first nor will he be the last to speak the truth about just how incredibly stupid Dunn was for drinking and driving over 100mph with a passenger. Everyone always has something to say about everything, positive or negative, and for people to target Ebert for this is ridiculous. I have no sadness for someone who did such a stupid thing and will not defend him or go after anyone who speaks their mind about him and neither should anyone else, the guy but people in danger and contributed to the death of someone else with his actions. He isn't necessarily deserving of 'respect' or protection from others opinions on what happened.

FPSunionOWNS
Its not ridiculous to target him he called the guy a jackass a couple hours after he died, what gives him the right to say that?

...do you not know of the tv/film series they were in in which they called themselves the same?

Whether he did or not, which he most likely did, the fact is Dunn and that entire crew flaunted the idea that they were 'jackasses' while doing stupid stunts...well now he did something that more than qualifies him as one, kills himself, a passenger and puts others who might have been on the road in danger and all the sudden "oh no, you can't call him that!", it is ridiculous. I don't get why people who do such stupid and dangerous things should be protected, I hate drunk drivers, and that is all I see in this situation.

No, I said they flaunted the fact that they are 'jackasses' which they were, which they didn't mind being called and would introduce each other as being such. I don't see why we can call them jackasses for doing stupid stunts, but when one finally does something worthy of such a title (drinking, driving, killing a passenger and putting others in danger) all the sudden we can't call him that? And I don't care whether or not he just died, his actions don't warrant any sort of protection, if he wasn't barely a film/TV star than no one would even bother trying to stick up or defend him. They'd be calling him far worse things than 'jackass'.

I like that whenever someone has any alcohol in their system it is supposedly the cause of anything bad that they do. I've been drunk plenty of times and never drove 140 mph (not that my car could). The guy was just a natural daredevil,

I don't care if he was a 'good' person, the moment he got in that car drunk and started driving over 100mph any respect I might have had for him went out the window, and luckily only he and one other person died and not some innocent person. As you said you 'don't care what anyone says'...it is a personal matter, that is your opinion, Ebert has his and I have mine, but neither me nor Ebert should have to hold our tongues in talking about a man who did something so dangerous and stupid. If the people who knew or liked him are mad than I'm sorry but Dunn is the reason why anyone is sad or angry and people should be mad at him for doing something so reckless and getting himself killed and not Ebert for speaking his mind, which happened to be nothing but the harsh truth.

On purpose he put himself in a condition that could not safely operate a motor vehicle...on purpose he got behind the wheel of said vehicle....and operated the vehicle while not in a condition to do so. And knowing he was breaking the law....plus risking the life of his passenger. Not an accident at all.

Certainly he's not a horrible person. One bad act doesn't erase your lifetime of actions. But he made a horrendouse judgement call. He killed himself and one other person. Not too many people can say they did that. He could have killed more people as well. Accidents can happen, but this was not an accident. This was criminal negligence. Certainly lots of people drive drunk, but that doesn't make it right. The decision to drive impaired happens long before you start your first drink. If you decide to head down to a bar with no designated driver and no preset limit, then you are making a decision.

Sorry but driving drunk is not an accident....LJS9502_basic
So ryan dunn got crashed his car on purpose?

On purpose he put himself in a condition that could not safely operate a motor vehicle...on purpose he got behind the wheel of said vehicle....and operated the vehicle while in condition to do so. And knowing he was breaking the law....plus risking the life of his passenger. Not an accident at all.

Ok you win he messed up big time.

Alright, totally off topic, but what in God's name is wrong with Ebert's face??? It scares me to death. It looks fake.

(I'm saying something insensitive, but I have the right to say it! Oh look at me, being on topic unintentionally!)

...No but really, what's wrong with his face...

He has thyroid cancer (or at least had it, don't know if it came back or not).

It might've come off a bit harsh, but it's the truth. Ryan disregarded the laws and put grief onto others.

I don't see the statement out of line..I do see the timing and why the f "tweet" about it ...awkward...

Ironically ..at the end of the day I see both Dunn and Ebert as a jackass..

Ebert is a total s***head. This has been known for a very long time. I'd recommend ignoring everything he says; his reviews in particular.

Why do you say that? Have you ever read anything he's written? I assume you haven't because he is one of the greatest writers in the world.

i don't think he should have commented on it.

but you shouldn't drink and drive, especially when you're going over 100MPH.

every action has an equal or opposite reaction, and his was a pretty reckless action.

Ebert gave Gladiator 2/5 stars

I refuse to say anything positive about him.

There is no such thing as "too soon" If something needs to be said, it does not matter when it is said. I have no problem with what Ebert tweeted.

Roger Ebert was...right, insensitive? perhaps, but what he say wasn't a lie, don't drive while drunk, plain and simple.
