My two cents??

God for you for wanting to learn to play. I used to play and have pondered getting back into it but I have so many hobbies that I really dont' have time/money for another.

I would personally choose an acoustic to start with. I think it is better for fundamentals. Regardless, I would choose something a bit better than a WalMart guitar pack. Often cheap guitars won't hold a tuning and don't sound nearly as good as others.

I think a lot of people get 'turned off' because the guitar they play doesn't sound like what they imagined it would.

Of course, money is a factor. I understand that. I was lucky and have a bro who is heavily into it. He took me to a couple of pawn shops and picked out an excellent, inexpensive Alvarez.
