I imagine the growing of the wings would pretty much suck balls. Imagine puberty, but instead of maturing sexually you have huge, feather-y masses sprouting out from your back.

Well the beggining would obviously suck. Theirs pain, then their not fully developed so you can't fly yet, and then you have to hide them. But rewards would be awesome.

Again, a tail would suck much less, and if you got all the -kinesis I listed..you could fly by the use of telekinesis or psychokinesis :3
