In July 1996, Mitt Romney helped locate the missing teenage daughter of a partner at Bain Capital. shows a different side of Romney.

A lot of people talk about Romney being rich and only looking out for his interests, but if that were the case, why would he only take a salary of $1 a year when asked to head a failing company that he turned around as well as when he was governor of Massachusetts. He also didn't take a salary of the corrupt and bankrupt 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. It is also said that he donated his entire inheritance to BYU.

How many poiticians do not take taxpayer money as their salary? Would Barak Obama give up his yearly salary as President? I am not saying Romney wouldn't, but has Obama not taken a salary or just a token salary of $1 at any point in his working career?

Oh, the old, quite sane Romney. I preferred that one to the one we have now, who has to make himself look like a monster just to get the far right vote.

They should recall Walker and elect Barrett for governor of Wisconsin.

He saved a woman and her baby from a mugging, after all. Got a few whacks with a tire iron for his trouble.

I never thought he was a bad guy. A single good deed doesn't make me want to vote for him. It just show he isn't pure evil like Newt Gingrich, or a minor D-Bag like Rick Santorum, or bat-**** crazy like Michelle Bachman.

That is true now, but it hasn't always been so. In fact most of that is only from book royalties that have come within the past few years. He's pretty much always been in the public sector throughout his professional life, and that doesn't tend to pay extremely well. So I think expecting him to forfeit salary like Romney (who, again, made hundreds of millions in the private sector) is a bit asinine.

If we go down that route we might as well discuss how Romney through Bain raided businesses leading to their evnetual bankrupcy while gaining all the profits..

Hence me saying at least. If that quote by Obama is true, then maybe he should think of giving up his salary and his government pension when he leaves government service. Being worth somewhere between $2 to $11 Million (I had looked around and one place stated he was worth somewhere between those to amounts), he doesn't need to make any more.

Then perhaps Mitt should offload his wealth until he is down to around $10 million.

If what Obama said is true, then it appears he is socialist in some capacity. Before he brates others for having money, he sould look at his own books to see what he is worth before harranging others about their wealth. If he thinks people have made enough money, then he needs to look at himself and follow his own words. I don't see that happening though.

People tend to think only in extremes, which is wrong. It's quite possible that Romeny can do some sleazy things but also do some very good things. One does not preclude the other.

Both men are kooks, regardless of their wealth.

I would not vote for either one of them.

When can we get someone good to run for office? A person who would actually solve problems and not call on their past to help them win the current election? Bin Laden's dead, and Obama keeps trumpeting it. Romney keeps talking about how he saved someone's daughter. What can they do for the country now?

Romney's a good person.

I'm surprised so many people think he's greedy or whatnot.

There's no personal greed in free enterprise, it's just business.

Most folks have no experience in business and think it's all about kicking puppies or something.

It doesn't matter how he got his money, he has it. The fact that he has been paid by taxpayers for most of his working career shows that he isn't interested in making money any other way and instead of working his own ass off for his pay, he was paid by those who did, just as Romney is supposed to have made his money.

So you seriously expect someone not wealthy (at the time) to forgo salary just to, what, look good for the public?

No, but now that he has such money, he should adhere to his own missive if he expects others to.

Romney's a good person.

I'm surprised so many people think he's greedy or whatnot.

There's no personal greed in free enterprise, it's just business.

Most folks have no experience in business and think it's all about kicking puppies or something.

When your wealth comes from buying up companies, picking them clean and disposing of the carcass yeah, that seems a little greedy.

So what's the cut-off point? At what dollar amount should a person forgo all other money?

Hence me saying at least. If that quote by Obama is true, then maybe he should think of giving up his salary and his government pension when he leaves government service. Being worth somewhere between $2 to $11 Million (I had looked around and one place stated he was worth somewhere between those to amounts), he doesn't need to make any more.

mhm I think the TC made a thread about obamas plans to destroy our capitalistic system on purpose to create a socialist state.

I can only hope

Obviously a ruse. He's an evil, baby eating conservative. Everybody knows that.

Ask Obama as he is the one who stated it.

It's his words, not mine. Him, telling people that at some point, they do not need any more money is a very socialist position. What I am saying is he needs to look at himself and do as he says before he expects others to do what he says. The fact that Romney has forsaken a salary several times shows that he has done what Obama has stated, buy yet Barry can't follow his own advice.

Obama might be centrist in office for his first term, but with what was said in a previous article about him that I linked to, it shows what he wants to do for a second term.

I like how you conveniently never addressed my point when you brought this up the first time.

This makes absolutely zero sense.

The full quote, "I do think at a certain point you've made enough money, but you know, part of the American way is, you can just keep on making it if you're providing a good product."
