The full quote, "I do think at a certain point you've made enough money, but you know, part of the American way is, you can just keep on making it if you're providing a good product."

I've not hit that point yet. I will keep you guys posted.

When your wealth comes from buying up companies, picking them clean and disposing of the carcass yeah, that seems a little greedy.

worlock77

Greed is an individual character trait which is harnessed by free enterprise.

When people apply for jobs to make $8 an hour, that's raw greed harnessed for production.

When people make millions buying and selling companies, that's not greed anymore, that's wealth.

The difference between rich and wealth.

Rich means you can drive a nice car and have a big TV.

Wealth means you can change and influence society through funding. It's not about TV's anymore, it's about schools in Africa or funding a PAC.

If your only goal in life is to have a big TV, that's greedy.

If your goal in life is get funding for schools and organizations, that's not greed, that's wealth.

It's not the dollar amount that counts, it's how you use it.

There's no doubt about the content of his character. He also saved a woman in France from a mugger too, but I'm still not entirely convinced that I should vote for Romney.

Somewhat off topic but for those who actually read the story, does this make anyone here think that this is why Romney is opposed the legalization of drugs?

No, but now that he has such money, he should adhere to his own missive if he expects others to.

WhiteKnight77

So what's the cut-off point? At what dollar amount should a person forgo all other money?

Ask Obama as he is the one who stated it.

No, I'm asking you, as you seem to think he's hit that point.

In July 1996, Mitt Romney helped locate the missing teenage daughter of a partner at Bain Capital. shows a different side of Romney.

A lot of people talk about Romney being rich and only looking out for his interests, but if that were the case, why would he only take a salary of $1 a year when asked to head a failing company that he turned around as well as when he was governor of Massachusetts. He also didn't take a salary of the corrupt and bankrupt 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. It is also said that he donated his entire inheritance to BYU.

How many poiticians do not take taxpayer money as their salary? Would Barak Obama give up his yearly salary as President? I am not saying Romney wouldn't, but has Obama not taken a salary or just a token salary of $1 at any point in his working career?

WhiteKnight77
aBecause he is setting this up to get people to go "Awe he looking fo daughter." Seriosuly, this just happened now, he's trying to get the sensitive people to vote for him instead of Obama because he has a garbage campaign that STILL has not mentioned what he will do when he gets in.

Being that I do believe in capatilism and a person should be able to earn as much or as little as they wish, he can earn what he wants. I just find it hypocritical that he makes such a statement, yet does not give up a salary. Of course, he is right that this is America and a person can do as they wish. Again, mighty hypocritical to make such statements when not living up to said statements.

How is it hypocritical? Maybe he hasn't hit that "enough" point yet. Even assuming that he is worth $11 million, maybe that's not "enough". Maybe he considers $20 or $25 million "enough" (even taking an absurd literalist interpretation as you do).
