[QUOTE="FalcoLX"]Let's get this straight, Laihendi, unless you're in your 30s and have been working and paying taxes that whole time YOU did not pay for your education. Other people paid for your education so that you can, in turn, get a good job and return that benefit to everyone else. You're too young to have paid more taxes than the benefit you've gotten out of it.ChemistianThis is common among the Libertarian viewpoint. The refusal to acknowledge the fact that the infrastructure that allows for their way of life is, and can only be, built and funded by a collective entity. That it is defended in the same way. That these methods and lessons apply to a great many issues and fields. That the balancing of liberty (which is at its core: total freedom) will always collide with justice (one person's view of liberty is often another persons injustice). Lai will learn this as he grows older. His sheltered life will collide with the real world. "no man is an island".
[QUOTE="NEWMAHAY"][QUOTE="Laihendi"] There is nothing wrong with me using the public university system. The government built that system with my money. I have a right to the services paid for with my money. I am not a hypocrite. Ayn Rand herself said that people should take advantage of the government programs they are forced into funding. I will not let my money pay for someone else's education and not my own. And Mingmao I recommend keeping track of Ron Paul's university appearances because he has been making a lot of them since he retired from congress.Laihendiyou only care about the services you directly use. If you don't use them, then you complain. Its hypocritical. It is not hypocritical. I should not be forced to fund services that I do not use. Other people should not be forced to fund services that they do not use. That is a rational and consistently principled position. I am not going to just let the government steal my money to fund these programs and then act like some kind of altruist and buy private alternatives. I bought a public education, and I will use it, just as I bought a public road network and I will use it. I never should have had to buy those things, but the government made me do it anyways. I will take what I bought because it is mine. The world doesn't revolve around one person Laih. You are being hypocritical. It doesn't revolve around you. Oh course, you can't see how blind you are.

Before and after your education at a university, you will not be using it. Are you going to complain then?

I could think of worse ideas, like Nazism or "Marxist-Leninist-Mao Zedong thought". Though yes libertarianism, like any political philosophy, if taken to extremes and applied overzealously can be flawed and problematic. No it cannot. There is nothing problematic about free markets. I've seen him on numerous occasions bash and denounce taxation of people as *stealing*, yet he turns around and rationalizes publicly funded institutions when it's convenient for him.

I cannot find a schedule either. I think checking his twitter every day might be the best way. He uses it on most days and he seems to mention universities he will attend soon. Also my book will be maybe 100-150 pages and I do not expect to make much (or perhaps any money). I want it to be widely distributed and read before the 2014 election. I am not writing for monetary gain.

You are being ignorant. I am not rationalizing anything. My money was stolen to build the public education system, therefore I have a right to use it. It is rightfully mine. My money should never have been stolen, but it was. These universities should not be subsidized, but they are. I have never said that people should let their money be stolen and then not even use the programs that their money was used to buy. That would be idiotic, as those people would only be further victimizing themselves. The GOP has the electoral advantage in the coming senatorial elections, as 21 Democrats will be up for re-election, as opposed to only 14 Republican incumbents. Assuming that incumbent candidates retain their seats in comparable numbers to the past election cycle, the Republicans need only a four seat net victory to take over the senate. This is certainly possible.
That being said, Laihendi, you really need to dial back your ego. Books, speeches, blogs and Youtube videos are not what a person of action does. Those are for people talking about doing great things without actually making a difference. Do you intend to volunteer for a campaign? Do some fundraising? Possibly even accept the best GOP candidate that can win (ie: a centrist) over an ideologue that cannot? That is what makes a "man of action."
