The Past, The Love, The Memory by A Skylit Drive made me cry a couple days ago x( Things are slowly getting better though.

Let Me Take This Time To
Ask You, Inform You
Of All The Things You Did Not Know
I Am Sorry I Cant Be The Cure For Your Life
You Were Always By My Side

By My Side
By My Side
By My Side

Life Spent Without Rain
You Will Always Be The Heart In Me
You Will Always Be
The Past, The Love, The Memories
The Past, The Love, The Memories
The Past, The Love, The Memories
The Past, The Love, The Memories
The Past, The Love
The Past, The Love, The Memories

It's a beautiful song, and I had so much on my mind I just broke down into tears because it reminded me so much of someone I love.

But Im so very sorry for your loss x( I know how it feels to loose a friend, I wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy x(

I was at home a few weeks ago and my brother told me to listen to that song. He said it was pretty brutal. I was listening to it thinking "this isn't that bad.....", and then it got further to the end......

In My Time of Need is pretty sad.

kylekatarn10

Definately in my top 15. Very sad song.

The saddest in my opinion would have to be Fire Above, Ice Below by Agalloch, since the whole song is just a huge buildup, and then a sort of "death" when the 2 minute outro comes on, and the lyrics are quite depressing:

The woeful silence,
And wind's reflection,
Of your body's pale ode,
An icy fortress,
Of blood and ages.

Sky fire above, ice below the hearth.
Sky fire above, ice below the hearth.
Fall away from me,
To the citadel at the end of time.
Where death sleeps,
And dreams of your buried pain.

There has never been a silence like
this before.

There will never be an ode like
this again.

It is also my favorite song by them.

Well let me put it this way: if someone close to me just died, I don't want to hear about someone raping their mother for acceptance. To that end, it's cool; I don't listen to too many sad songs either :P

Nanas de Cebolla was a poem written by the Spanish poet Miguel Hernandez while in Jail after the Spanish civil war.His support of the Republican trops with poetry was ruled as a crime.

From Wikipedia:

Perhaps the best known work of the poet is a poem called "Nanas de cebolla" ("Onion Lullaby"), a poem in which Hernández replies to a letter from his wife in which she told him that she was surviving on bread and onions. In the poem, the poet envisions his son breastfeeding on his mother's onion blood (sangre de cebolla), and uses the child's laughter as a counterpoint to the mother's desperation. In this as in other poems, the poet turns his wife's body into a mythic symbol of desperation and hope, of regenerative power desperately needed in a broken Spain.

Is a very sad song indeed :(

He died in 1942 in jail of tuberculosis.

Videotape by Radiohead is so beautifully sad. No Surprises by them is really gloriously bittersweet.

Lacrimosa - Die Schreie sind verstummt

Translation:

The Screams Are Silenced

And so occured
There is no going back
What remains is silence
And the loss
Followed by pain
The world she was
A creature of light
But for me alone
She was my beating heart
In my chest

But on this day
And at that place
Pride was broken
And thus her heart

Today - I roam the dark forests
And return to the valley
Today - I wander
Through deep ravines
Aimless - restless
Today - I go through the villages
Her picture in me
Today - her tears are burning
So I drink from her

Here I am human
And I kiss my longing awake
Here I am strange
And I kiss my longing awake

Yet much deeper
Deeper than the longing
There she hides
Her life from the world
Weak and trembling
Her hands outstretched
Stained with blood and
Mutilated is her body

Once a light went out from her
And she shines - and she shines

So there she lies
And there I can hear the scream
And she screams

Broken and beaten
Ridiculed by the world
Once a light went out from her
She now spits on herself and lies
In her blood
At the wayside in the ditch
She awaits death
Covered in mud and shame
And I hear her scream
How she screams...

One last time
I was down in the valley
Once again in the ravine
Once again in the crypt
In where she now hides
Buries herself and covers
She hardly dares -
She hardly dares to look at me
Dares not to touch me
Skin on skin
She hardly dares -
She hardly dares to look at me
To touch me skin on skin

Hesitantly I rise
Hesitantly she rises
And I hold her hand
Which leads me to her heart

The last kiss was meant for me
The soul is followed by the heart
The screams are silenced!
The screams are silenced!

... What a beautiful and sad song, it gets me every time.:(

(Oh, btw, the video is butchered, the actual song is 12:43 minutes long, so otherwise it wouldn't fit, but sadly it's very noticeable where it skips parts of the song)

And yeah, MPS is an incredible funeral song. I've always seen Videotape and MPS kind of linked...MPS by someone on earth and alive struggling with someone's death, and Videotape the dead person's ascent to afterlife.

A lot of the music I consider sad would not be considered sad by others, with the exception of Adagio for Strings, which is about as obvious a lament as has ever been written. But take this for instance.

The section beginning at 2:35 tears at my heart. It evokes such longing and yearning to hear it, and even more to play it. I'm not very old - but old enough to have pleasant memories from days gone by that can never be recaptured, and this work brings them to the surface. So it makes me sad, but in a good way. The same is true of this.

Very much the same character. There is such a strong sense of longing and pain lying under the surface, and again, it became much more apparent to me when I played the work myself. Nowhere is that clearer than in the first few minutes. Later in the movement, the feeling is dissipated somewhat by the more grandiose writing.

Then in a different vein... this and this.

Striking, both of them. I'm not often moved by music from the modern popular realm... but on occasion, certain artists really do capture the beauty of simplicity without stumbling into the world of the simplistic, as they so often do. They are beautiful songs, and I find them pleasingly depressing. Slean's example is of personal interest to me, because part of the melody is identical to a symphonic sketch I was composing in university. It's not something I ever intended to publish. But when I heard this, I was very surprised. We don't know each other, and yet here we were independently composing an identical melody and supporting harmony. In a strange twist of fate, hers is even in the same key as mine was.

I adore this sort of writing. Calm and reflective on the exterior, it is filled with emotion and meaning beneath the surface for those who care to probe to discover.

To the OP, I offer my condolences for whatever they're worth. I hope you can find peace through all of this. Your friend would want it that way.

Pearl Jam - Yellow Ledbetter

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hs8y3kneqrs

Here are the lyrics because hes hard to understand.

Unsealed
On a porch a letter sat
Then you said i wanna leave it again

Once i saw him
On a beach of weathered sand
And on the sand i wanna leave it again

On a weekend wanna wish it all way
And they called an i said an i want what
i said an i call out again

And the reason oughta leave her calm i know
I said i know what i wear that a box or the bag

Oh yeah can you see them?
Out on the porch
Ah, but they don't wave
I see them
Round the front way, yeah
And i know and i know
I don't wanna stay

make me cry

I see
I don't know there's something else
I wanna drum it all away
An i said
I said i i don't know where there's a box or the bag

Oh yeah can you see them?
Out on the porch
Ah, but they don't wave
I see them
Round the front way, yeah
And i know and i know
I don't wanna stay
I don't wanna stay
I don't wanna stay

Down in a Hole is pretty sad, All I Need by Radiohead, Fell on Black Days by Soundgarden, and Everyday is Exactly the Same by Nine Inch Nails. Probably many more that don't come to mind, but yeah most of those are pretty straight forward with their titles.

I can't really think of many sad songs right now but this one

Sia - Breathe me

http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=wVBiZdy6TpQ

This is the same song only with a video. Its the ending of Six Feet Under, a good show that was on HBO so if you plan to watch it ever (which I recommend) then dont watch this video. But it definitely puts more impact on the song.
