No, this is the part where you should have realized that that was the joke.

No, this is the part where you should have realized that that was the joke.
Is the part where I ask what joke?I guess it would depend on the motivations behind having such a day. If it's done just to spite the gay community, then I dont see it having a real constructive purpose.
Not because of a parade. It has more to do with increasing coverage of the gay community in the media, growing support from lawmakers to protect the rights of gays, and a recent liberal shift in society that has been a result of recent civil rights movements and globalization.stanleycup98
You're agreeing with Wasdie, whose stance is that the pride parades bring unneeded media attention to homosexuals... while saying that the parades played no part in bringing attention to the media?

To me this reminds me of the last episode of South Park where Cartman got presents the same day as Stan's birthday.. Just so Cartman felt special (even though he got presents every week by his Mom) because Stan was getting presents that day.
i know what it is like to be a minority, only 19% of my county is white, and over 60% of my county is black, the remaining 20% is everything else. it is not hard to be a minority, and the majority has their own month when my skin color does not. and who the hell are you to dictate to others their motives? do you ever have a post that is not completely made up of false statements and assumptions? You guys really don't know what it feels like to be a minority?
These events are meant to boost pride because they are elements in their lives that ruins their pride. I'm not just talking about LGBT, but race and religion too. If you're white or straight, what's stopping your from having pride? Are you being beaten death? bullied? Do you feel alone against the majority because you're different? No.
And it's sad that people who shout, "double standards" don't at least try to understand why these things exist in the first place. It's hard to be a minority. You guys aren't trying to boost pride, you're just doing it out of spite.
Blue-Sky
good. i hate double standards. homosexuals have the right to have a parade/day, and so should we. its only fairNeo-ganonUm, you do. No one's stopping you.
I never understood the point of a gay pride parade. It seems to me that it is just the gay community's way of "sticking it to the man" and gathering together and acting really gay in public to cause a stir.
Because let's be honest... they aren't making any friends by marching around like this:
Good for them. Shows how stupid Gay Pride Day is.Solid_Snake325By instituting an even sillier counterpart to it? What a sensible response.

Yeah. They're arrested for soliciting heterosexual sex from members of the opposite sex who just happen to make that their profession. Then they're stigmatized. Persecution I tell you.

Straight people can "act straight" every day without causing a stir, gay people have been relegated to a back corner of society since, well, ancient Greece. Pride parades are their way of saying that, basically, they're here, they're queer get used to it.

I'm just saying that it's apparently doing that.

Exactly, they are "sticking it to the man" and trying to cause a stir with people who already don't accept them. And marching around dressed like a fairy with a pitchfork with your ass hanging out isn't making any friends... it's just to piss people off. And I said "acting gay because "acting gay is so stupid. I think you just made his point for him. Gay people have nowhere near the acceptance that straight people do, they're constantly treated differently. We may have equal rights, but being black in America still isn't the same experience as being white, history month being a prime example as many important black historical figures are skipped or brushed over in history books. You have no idea what it's like to be a minority (in more of a sense than just a minority in a small community), and as soon as someone confronts you with that all you can do is condescend.

They're trying to gain acceptance, trying to ensure that people who don't accept them can't just comfortably brush them off into a corner, that they have to actually confront a visible group that they don't accept. It's the same thing that African-Americans did with marches, sit-downs, and protests during the civil rights movement, they made sure that they couldn't just be pushed back into a black section, out of sight and out of mind.
Why is acting gay stupid, why is it weird? Why can't people just act how they want to act? All of us straight people already do. How many straight people act weired, but are we going around to them and saying they shouldn't act the way they act because it's weird?

New Orleans is like 70% black.. I was a minority in my whole city. It's the "Chocolate City"... remember? A term coined by our former mayor. Anyway... what are you talking about black historical figures are brushed over? If that is the case, then how do I know all about Harriet Tubman, the underground railroad, Kunta Kinte from when we watched the movie Roots in class, Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X, Booker T Washington, Washington Carver, Rosa Parks, Dred Scott, Nat Turner, Sojourner Truth, ... Black people organizing sit-ins was a whole lot different. They couldn't eat at certain restaurants, use certain bathrooms, use certain areas of the public buses, use certain schools, etc. That is completely different. Gay people just have a different sexuality. And acting gay is stupid because there is no such thing as acting gay There is a such thing as acting silly. And dressing up like a fairy and talking with a lisp is acting silly. You can be gay and act just like any other man out there. I don't know why gay people feel that they have to "act gay by wearing fairy costumes, bright colors, man thongs, and all that. That is one reason that people don't like the gay community... because they act weird like that. If they acted like everybody else and just happened to have a different sexuality, then they would be more accepted.[QUOTE="BMD004"]

If homosexuals have the right to parade so should straight people. The quote "unlike homosexuals, heterosexuals are not discriminated against simply for being heterosexuals" is a bit biased. Isn't a homosexual group saying a heterosexual group cannot parade because of their sexuality a bit discriminatory?daqua_99
