Its a common philosophy in all the Abhramaic religions thanks to the writings in the old testament. I don't know if the bible ever explicitly states its okay to beat your wife, but considering the sheer amount of passages where it says that women are beneath men and should be completely submissive, along with the passages where it talks about how to correctly beat your slaves, its not too difficult of a conclusion to come to

Yes, I have read the Quran as well as the Bible, in totality. I've also studied social and political Islam. This is a result of Arab culture. It has nothing to do with any religion. yeah..its pretty sad that these ppl rey to use religion but infact there no such things in the books...i once had a discussion with an arab once and i showd him the quran and showed proof that they are equal men and women and you cant beat them and he just didnt listen :(
