Pro-Choice up until Fetal Viability.

Its around the Fetal Viability period in which t he brain develops to support a consciousness. It is human consciousness that supports personhood.

It is personhood that makes human life so valuable. not the fact that they have human DNA.

Basically this.. It is a grey area.. What is most infuriating about this entire debate is the sanctimonious side is the side that are largely warhawks, pro death penalty, against the support of said children afterbirth if the parent needs financial support.. If you claim to be pro life, act like it and actually have a view point that values ALL life.. You know, the very same asswipes who blocked the bill in congress to give healthcare to the 9/11 first responders suffering from numerous health issues due to that day for political reasons and posturing.

I'm for it at all stages of pregnancy. I think if the baby hasn't learned any values of life (Or emotional attachment to being alive) I feel its okay to abort. I only consider it "immoral" to abort only after the point where we begin teaching it right from wrong, life and death. But that's just my opinion...

I don't understand how to remove someone's constitutional and god-given rights in order to guarantee rights to someone who needs their body in order to survive. Until it is born, or at least viable, I don't see how any lawful society can remove a woman's rights to her body, to choices about her life, liberty and happiness to extend them instead to an unborn fetus whose brain isn't even capable of consciousness yet.

I don't get the obsession with protecting unborn fetuses. I value the life and desires of the mother that has lived for 20+ years then a fetus that is just beginning life.

The USA solved abortion in 1973. Opinion on abortion doesn't really matter- the operation has been happening for hundreds of years, and women need a place to do it safely.

My personal view is pro choice.

Pro choice. And don't give me that Pro Life crap. You're not pro life, you're pro birth. The same people against abortion are for capital punishment and wouldn't let the government take a dime out of their paycheck to feed poor children if given the chance. Hell they'd let a woman die from an ectopic pregnancy if given the chance.

@sonicare: In theory: Absolutely.

However, in practice contaceptives can fail (as minimalistic as the chance is), and with some states being hellbent on pushing abstinance programs, students are either unequipped with the knowledge on how to use birth control properly to flat out bullshitted into believing that birth control is dangerous or flat out doesnt work. I do agree that we should emphasize birth control, to minimize the need for abortions.

Not just birth control, but safe sex in general. STD prevention.

I want this to be a completely calm debate/conversation. Lets respect everyone's views.

So what do you guys think about Abortions?

Personally I am very mixed. I think that by aborting a child you are effectively murdering a kid despite what people say about it not technically being a living being. Honestly.... **** that. Its alive, its growing, and its a child. But then people always bring up Rape victims and I can sympathize with that. How can you tell someone that got raped and pregnant that she has to have the child? I get that. But at the same time I think.... is it the childs fault that their biological dad was an asshole and their mom was pregnant.... its just something that happened. Its terrible. But it happened. And as a result there is now a new child that is alive and will be coming into the world. So yeah. I don't know. The rape thing if where i get stuck on my opinion. What do you guys think?

abortions are good for humanity

I believe that a baby is life right from the moment the sperm hits the egg. there for abortion is killing a life. Im not going to argue but I do think abortion does have a purpose but it should only be used if having the baby is going to kill or hurt the mom in the process.

@foxhound_fox: Your point? Both people know the potential consequences. There is no excuse as contraception is readily available.

I'm not a woman so I don't feel it is my place to have much of an opinion.

But with that said, it should be her choice. Plain and simple, pro-choice.

Pro-life is the oppressive, narrow-minded option in my opinion and while the idea of abortions is unpleasant (at the very least) to any sane person, they are necessary and/or logical in many situations. The fact that the people championing pro-life viewpoints often dislike the support structures that take care of infants once they're out of mother does not help much, either, and is my biggest issue with those people.

Somewhere between the arch-liberal "abortions are awesome! Knock me up just so I can get one!" and the hyper-conservative "Abortion is murder! You asked to get raped and now you gotta keep that baby" extremism is a happy middle ground where rational people can compromise and say "OK, up to this point, you've had plenty of time to think it over and the pregnancy is still early, get an abortion if you need it".

Sadly people feel they have to choose black or white, they can't be a beautiful grey middle-ground.

I'm not sure on how you got from plastic surgery to abortion ...

because cutting off pieces of yourself is akin to removing a fetus?

I don't know how we got here, either.
