One of the drawbacks the guy has to consider before entering the home is that he might get shot...I wouldn't feel bad for the guy; it's his fault.
I don't own a gun, but if I did, I would shoot an intruder without hesitation.

If I don't react quick enough, I'll just grab the bo staff I keep in my living room and take him out. If I get to my bedroom right as he comes in, I'll grab my sword. If I have a bit more time, I'll load my Glock 22 (.40 caliber) and use that. If he's got friends, I'll keep the 22 next to me and load the .44 Magnum as well, just in case someone decides to use a car or something.
