Science is not entirely based on evidence or fact, it is mostly based on assumptions.

Examples:

1. The planets temperature has increased by 0.6 degrees Celsius within the last 100 years. Therefore, Global warming is caused by humans.

2. There are fossils from different periods that look similar. Therefore, they evolved.

3. There is not a lot of evidence to prove Gods existence. Therefore, he does not exist.

What do you think?

You're right, that's why things are disproven and changed over time. If science was all about facts, nothing in science would ever change. It's all about how people think things actually are.

A fact is merely an assumption that can be reasonably supported for the time being by observations or some other sort of reliable means. So, our world is based on assumptions. religion and the existence of god is based on speculation. No observation can prove God's exist beyond a reasonable doubt. That's why it's called faith, and not science.

1. We can't be 100% sure, but 0.6 degrees quite huge.

2. If you understood anything about fossils/biology in general you'd remove this right now.

3. Science doesn't seek to prove or disprove God. What you're talking about is rationalism.

Science is based on facts, evidence and logic. Try and base a single paper on even a few assumptions and then submit it for peer-review...get ready to get your balls chopped off.

If you think that's all the proof of global warming, you're wrong.

2. There are fossils from different periods that look similar. Therefore, they evolved.

If you think that's all the evidence of evolution, you're wrong.

3. There is not a lot of evidence to prove Gods existence. Therefore, he does not exist.

If you think that there's any proof of god, or that scientists think he definetly doesn't exist, you're wrong.

So science is wrong in general. Someone should let the modern world know. Toss those computers out!

Anyway I don't see many if any real scientists arguing #3 from a scientific standpoint. "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence" is a pretty long held concept in the study of history and science.

The Scientific Method:

1. Scientist sees phenomenon not explained by a current theory

2. Scientist formulates hypothesis (assumption) on what he sees

3. That assumption is tested and either continually verified, keeping the theory or only slightly modifying it, or it is falsified and thrown out.

4. Rinse and repeat.

In a way, you're correct that all science is based on assumption. But, you left out the most important part of it, that it is continually tested and revised until it becomes a scientifically accepted fact (see: Evolution).

Also, I'd be wary about attacking science. Pretty much all modern marvels were made thanks to discoveries in science, so you're essentially throwing stones in a glass house.

You can't test the theory of evolution.

A lot of scientific "discoveries" come from something that certain cultures already know.

Example:

Most "modern" medicine.

You can't test the whole timeline of evolution directly because it happened over 4.5 billion years.

Evolution however has been observed. Many, many times.

Also, you seem to use the word theory as if it was nothing more than an educated guess/hunch...which is COMPLETELY wrong.

You clearly just don't understand science. What the hell is it with fundamentalist religious types and attacking science? Not one single advancement of the human race was brought by religion, all from science. Science pushes the boundaries of our knowledge, and advances our understanding of the universe, religion chains us to old myths and bronze age customs and beliefs. Everything in modern society you see, was brought to you by science. People dedicate their lives to furthering the human race's advancements through science, and what do fundamentalists do? Belittle their achievements and advances because "it's not in the bible" or "it's against the quaran (however you spell it)". I find it ridiculous and just shameful that they still try to hold back the human race because they can't let go of ancient beliefs that have no relevance today.

Then you're lucky that you have internet access. You can look up the evidence and other expert's testimonies in order to further the understanding you have of the topic.

However, from your original post it seems you're not taking advantage of this amazing resource.

[QUOTE="the_one34"]I don't understand why people with such little scientific knowledge insist on criticising concepts they barely even understand. I was taught to keep my mouth shut in discussions where I didn't know crap about!harashawn

Because I don't agree with these "experts" you just assume I know nothing about what they say.

But why don't you agree even though there is a HUGE ammount of evidence? Can you refute the evidence at all? Or d you just choose not to...believe it?
