[QUOTE="elblanquito_81"]If you want to make yourself feel good why not do something a little bit more constructive like working out? Why don't you just go seek some professional help to get to the root of what's causing you to harm yourself? Staying the way you are isn't going to solve anything and it's not going to make you feel any better in the long-term. methree15

Idk about thread creator but I'm usually too tired/unmotivated to work out and I see professional help.

Yeah, working out does take some amount of dedication but that was just an example. There's lots of other options besides harming oneself. But it's good that you've sought help. Too many others just refuse to acknowledge that they have a problem and refuse to get help, or do they do get help but stop going after a few sessions. But stick with it, it's better in the long-run.

*raises hand* Pretty ftw in you ask me. Obviously not in a way that is actually dangerous ofcourse, the ice cube is actually a very good example. Scratching maybe, cutting isn't too good an idea.

Working out is an awesome way to get rid of these urges. I feel great after I work out and that helps me sleep, which I need all the help in the world I can get when it comes to sleeping.

I drink and do drugs all the time and smoke, relieves my tension and helps me relax and feel good and thats what I need. I know its a bad way to go about solving issues with yourself but its helped me be happy through many rough times.

The only self destructive behavior I have tends to be cigarettes and alcohol, etc.

I do not get pleasure from directly injuring myself.

Sometimes like when my car roof is really hot, I put my hand down and hold it there for a while. Just to see if I can. It never really hurts any longer than 5 minutes after I take my hand off. does that count?

I used to skateboard, does that count. I was hardcore freestyle. Knocked out two teeth (which were replaced) shattered my ankle broke my leg broke my toe a few times and cracked my wrist and my thumb several times. Never did anything about the wrist toe or thumb. Just sucked up the pain and kept on riding. There's nothing they can do for those injurys anyway.

I bite my fingernails and scratch my self often, so technically I do self harm. But I have done some cutting in my life before. Not to feel good or anything, but to see if I was game enough to do it. I was. The rest of the time was on accidental purpose. I wanted to test something and I knew it would happen, and it did, eg seeing how sharp a razor blade was. I came to know that it was very sharp.

Me and my friends used to do that, but on a barbeque. I was crowned King of the BBQ. It was totally worth it.

If you are self-harming, PLEASE seek counseling or medical attention immediately. If the person you trust with your worries and feelings brushes you off or belittles your situation, get another opinion from another professional.

Many people do not understand that what causes people to cut is often a chemical imbalance that is outside of the control of the person. People who injure themselves intentionally are not being "emo" or "goth" or "punk" or whatever the popular term is right now. Many need help to get their body chemicals back in order. Things such as reducing stimulants, like caffeine or nicotine, and depressants like alcohol can really help get you back on track.

Why do that when cutting your eyes out is a much better way to get attention? Assuming anyone cares. The problem is... people don't want to feel bad for you, they are annoyed or they just don't take you seriously.

If you were to tell me you feel like diving in front of a bus I would say "fine, whatever." because I can't live my life if I keep thinking about yours.

I've never understood the argument that you hurt yourself because your "existence only brings pain and misery to others". Obviously they care about you enough to be hurt by your self harm, if they didn't they wouldn't give two tosses.

I'd also like to clear up that "emo" is a genre of music; "emos" are people who listen to said music and dress accordingly, ergo do exist. As with all groups/gangs/whatever people are said to act accordingly too (rappers get into gang fights, metal heads headbang, teeny boppers scream and emos whine). While these are stereotypical views and generalising, they obviously didn't appear out of thin air. Often they arise from social truths. That's my take on it.

Back on topic, no I've never purposely self harmed myself. If it's endorphin rushes you're looking for, you get just as much if not more when you smile, exercise or eat chilis.

i know people who do it for attention - those types can **** off and wake up and look at places like burma and zimbabwe (sorry bad spelling) people who's lives have been tore apart almost literally who have no food, money or home. but if people seriously have a problem then they shgould seek help.

and well if u do it because you enjoy pain - go to a bondage club or something.

"Emo" is a genre of music, and a style of dress.

Emo can be what you want it to be, because its not a real word.

And people who seriously self-harm should get help, seriously wtf is wrong with people.

[QUOTE="blackngold29"][QUOTE="Film-Guy"]Then why do you feel the need to cut yourself? Clearly your life is better than many others. blackngold29

Is one person cutting themself making the other lives worse?

No, but if somebody thinks their lives are so bad that they feel the need to cut themselves they they really need to look at the world and realize they are wasting their life hurting themselves while others die of startvation.

You've obviously never been depressed. It's not something where you can take a moment to stop and examine your thoughts for a second, even if you try.

lol Ive been depressed before. both my parents died when I was 20. I had to pay my own bills, was very lonely, and life sucked for an entire year. still did not feel the urge to cause pain on myself..

Why? Seems to me like that'd be a handy way to do this "self harm"

There are various reasons to why people self harm. It makes me feel good. Causing physical pain to yourself releases endorphins into the brain that make the body feel good.

Alright we get it, other people don't care. Or random people off the street don't care.

My pyschologist only cares until my money runs out. I get that too.

We get it. Now stop posting the same thing over and over again.

Things such as reducing stimulants, like caffeine or nicotine, and depressants like alcohol can really help get you back on track.

most "professionals" will give u "happy" pills....and i have seen what those happy pills do to certain individuals....they look like frigging zombies.....if i was ever that depressed......i would rather not seek help

Yup, they're professional pill prescribers. Most of them don't cure anything nor provide any real therapy.

Again, you know nothing about what your talking about, please stop. Have you ever been to a theraphist? ever? No. Then stop acting like you know everything.

Happy pills? When you talk anti depressents it doesn't make you "happy". If something bad happens your sad, something good your happy and the everyday depression will start to go away.

The pills generally, to my knowledge, either make you sleep like the dead a LOT or cut out the extremes of both high and low, leaving you... boring.
