[QUOTE="Aljosa23"]Whether or not what you're saying is true (it's not) how is any of this a bad thing?

ghoklebutter

Nothing wrong a "what do I get out of it" mentality. Humans are hard-wired that way. I take issue with people who try to pretend otherwise (ghokebutler).

I hope this is easier for you to read:

"A judge's sexual orientation has nothing to do with his/her competence, so Idon't care about it."

Great. If it's all the same to you then let's pick the straight judge.

No, it isn't. That's like saying it's religious discrimination to take the Lord's name in vain. Are you proposing we bring back blasphemy laws too? That's very libertarian of you.

Oops. It looks like I didn't make myself clear, so I'll repeat myself: "A judge's sexual orientation has nothing to do with his/her competence, so I don't care about it."

See, I even underlined it and made it bold! Would you like me to make it red as well? Or perhaps would a color less harsh on the eyes be better?

In any case, I hope you pay attention to what I have to say.

 moneymatterz

Perhaps math/science escapes you, but there is a such thing as holding variables constant to isolate the effect of, in this case, a single characteristic (sexuality)

P1. A judge's sexual orientation has nothing to do with his/her competence.

P2. In regards to choosing a judge, I only care about the judges' competence.

P3. Both judges are equally competent.

C. I have no preference towards either judge.

Maybe you fail to understand what I said because I didn't make that bolded sentence pink. Sorry about that. I'll do that next time you intentionally ignore what I say.

That's why I said in my scenario that they are equally qualified. Perhaps math/science escapes you, but there is a such thing as holding variables constant to isolate the effect of, in this case, a single characteristic (sexuality).

moneymatterz

so if they are equally quaified, why do you care? either way you got a qualified judge on the bench. your determination she got the edge because she is gay is just conjunction, and therefore meaningless.

Because gay people happen to be the most vitriolic vocal agenda-pushing minority out there. It's religious discrimination to allow gay marriage. It discriminates because marriage is a religious ceremony.

then why are atheists allowed to get married if it's a religious arrangement?  marriage is a ceremony that CAN involve religion but does not have to. the governemnet should not be involved in sanctionting religious practiices anyway...

why do people vest so much into the pointless? man, woman, of whatever race sexuality height, if these things matter to you, you are the problem with politics, and the reason for the corruption, because you are easily manipulated into cheering for what you profess to hate, racism, sexism or whatever other collective form you pretend to be against.

While this surely can only be a good thing, in an ideal world someone's sexual orientation shouldn't matter when becoming a public figure.

Or better yet, cut the nonsense and just give equal rights to gays, but I suppose that's asking for too much from the Republicans.

There are some rights they can;t get just because of the fact they are the same se so they will never gain EQuAL rights. I mean what rights do they not have left  that could possibly be given to them that some places already grant already?

I mean you can only do so much benefits and rights to people that are the same sex if the rights specifically effect two different sexes.
