The speed helps. When you go on some forums, the first page stays mostly the same for days at a time, because so few people post new threads, or at all. On OT, new threads and new posts are coming in all the time, so you can check back every 5 minutes, and still find something new to look at.

I normally post in the RC thread in OT and a few of the threads that catch my attention. I spend most of my time in unions or ucbs.
