i may not be a big art person, but i still don't think i will ever understand how someone can pay so much money for paintings like that ( paintings were it looks like paint was randomly put in different places...) i mean whats so artistic about that?

Is that a Jackson Pollock?

He was a hack. I have a friend who has devoted his life to art, painting in particular, and in spite of his deep respect for the artists that have come before, he hates Jackson Pollock.

Ah, good ol' whats-his-name. He was going against the grain with his paintings. Society had never seen anything like it, so he was basically inventing a new type of artistic expression. He spent whole nights doing some of his paintings, too. I was like you at first, but it makes sense if you go back to the time period. It had never been done before.

Art is in the eye of the beholder. Much like finding someone attractive and spending money on that someone, while another finds the person repulsive. Art isn't concrete.

wizard90

He was just trying to use a real world example of something that is better then this piece of art, that's all.

And wow, I've seen such better art that falls in the 'abstarct' category, look at FragStains signature..that's better then that...is it a painting? What is that? It looks like hot glue splurted everywhere on a piece of cardboard.

The ironic thing is that...they conducted an experiment..some ppl just poured paint all over a canvas and they brought in some "art experts" ..they all were like"oh marvelous painting..are these the hidden works of poollack ,,,,etc" they kept praising the paintings untill the man behind the experiment came out and told them everything..the look on the experts face was really worth 140 $ million :D
