Sex and Violence

Why is that here in the American media, its ok to shoot someone in the face or something to that effect while saying sex should be avoided while in Europe Sex is ok and broadcast on tv locally while they are against violence.

I thought this up from some articles I read from Manhunt and leipzig :)

It's ok to shoot people in the face?

Different cultures, that's the only answer.

Why is that here in the Americas, its ok to shoot someone in the face or something to that effect while saying sex should be avoided while in Europe Sex is ok and broadcast on tv locally while they are against violence.

I don't know what people are telling you about America, but I LIVE in America. And I can honestly tell you that if you shoot someone in the face here, it's not okay. You'll go to prison. In fact, it's so not okay that the USA is just about the only modernized nation that will KILL YOU for shooting someone in the face.

I don't know what people are telling you about America, but I LIVE in America. And I can honestly tell you that if you shoot someone in the face here, it's not okay. You'll go to prison. In fact, it's so not okay that the USA is just about the only modernized nation that will KILL YOU for shooting someone in the face.

:P I only used that as an example as in videogames or in movies. I live in the US, Im sorry if i couldnt state my thoughts correctly.

Because sex is gross, dirty, and evil and should only be saved for the person that you love.:P

I don't mean to hate on Christianity, but hear me out before getting angry. According to early Christian texts, (Anselm, Augustine, Pascal, et cetera) sex is a complex issue. Sex in and of itself is not sinful. However, an individual person cannot have sex without sinning. There are three ways this happens. 1) One partner idolizes the other partner, instead of God, or 2) The person succombs to the physical desire and loses his or her 'focus', or 3) .... I forget...

Anyway, I studied this last semester. Not this issue exactly, but it did come up. If you disagree with me, read the early Christian writers and form your own analysis.

Yeah, but those two points apply to all aspects of the christian life style. Don't put things before God keep him your focus. and don't give in to temptation. so its kind of a moot point. and i forgot isn't a point :p

And to the original poster eh its just culture, I follow the christian values of no sex before marriage but I don't think sex is as taboo as people think in the US. Its pretty much everywhere, maybe we put more pressure on it like with movies and stuff like sex = rated R but killing a few people = pg - 13 . Sex is every where, watch any teen drama and all it is who slept with who.

I personally feel violence has gone down on tv and sex has increased. but if you take video games into account then violience is still on top. I love the Ninja gaiden 2 screen shots haha

The violence you see in movies and TV shows is so far from real that it's obvious you've never seen the real thing, because if youhave it would be obvious how fake it looks.

How much shooting do you actually see in an action film? I little her and a little there. It's a small part of most action films.

I think that sex is way exaggerated in terms of how bad it is. I mean you don't want to be showing a 5 year old porn or something. But really, I mean if you see your teenager looking at pornography, then you ground them for like a year that is an extreme exaggeration. If you don't want them doing it, talk to them about it and explain why. Violence is different, in my opinion, you probably shouldn't anything particularly violent to anyone who is 12 or younger, I mean they can watch stuff like M15+ Recommended (PG-13 for you Americans) but not MA 15+ Parental Guidence Needed (M) or R18+ Restricted (NC-17?).

Well that's my opinion anyway.

Because America's heritage is built on foundations of blood and violence... I guess. Of course, exposing our children to completely natural processes of reproduction could scar them for life! :ofoxhound_fox

i think it was earlyer this year a politician in sweden suggested that we should show porn 24/7 on weekends, so that more kids would get born :oberobnx

Violence is just as human as sex, but I think violence is easier to keep under control on a day to day basis. Really it's the sex on TV that's effecting kids not the violence (as much)

I watched Gladiator on TV, and they even censored out BLOOD.

Now, I have seen SIMULATED killings on TV, just like I've seen simulated sex on TV, both of them heavily censored. Never seen a porno on TV though.
