From the very first article of Libya's provisional Constitutional Declaration:

Libya is a democratic, independent state with Tripoli its capital, Islam its religion, sharia, Islamic law as the main source of legislation and Arabic as its official language.

As long as they stay pro western and pump the oil, A-ok! Its the American way!.. On a more serious note, yeah hopefully some day the US will stop continuing the same policies that has been going on for 50 years, policies that seem to be a contradiction of the US's image and ideals.

Most western law systems are based off of the ten commandments. I really don't see much difference between the two. It's up to them to build a good government, having a law system based on Sharia law isn't an instant strike out.

Nothing I said was pro anything..it was anti sharia law.

Would I want America to become a 100% christian state? hell no.

I think people should have their own say and the system be made up where everyone is included.

Oh I am not suggesting that France and the UK are not faultless in this.. I am more critical towards the US because A) I am a citizen of the said nation.. and B) The US has really been the leaders in said operations and policies since the mid 1950s when Great Britain abandoned the region more or less.

Of course they are doing it for their own gain.. That was my entire point that the US for 50 years now has supported and installed into power some of the most corrupt and brutal governments within the Middle East for economic and political gain.. I don't know about you, but I am against that.

I don't see what's wrong with this. There will be political parties, so if Libyans don't want Sharia anymore, it will go away.

It's the lesser of two evils, and you can't except them to just adopt western culture, it's not really any of our business, so long as no serious crimes are commited.

well that is mostly true. I'm not exactly with or against it as I tend to blame the people of the Middle East themselves for being uninformed, ignorant and unskilled that they have to take this **** without doing anything about it. Also, looking at the "Arabian Spring" and the kind of results it yielded in many Middle Eastern states, specially Egypt, I'm not sure if the people of the Middle East deserve anything better. That is my opinion tho which may not be true, but there is some truth to it at least.

I don't see this as the end of the world. It's just one vague sentence on a piece of paper. Until there is actually a new Libyan government I can't really say much about the new Libyan government. With that said, I doubt Libya is all of a sudden going to become this vibrant democracy. That is going to take time. Specific political movements are going to have to develop into parties, as is a legitimate judicial system, among other things. But the Libyan revolution has begun to lay the foundation for that vibrant democracy. This has been an important first step.

In the Palestinian constitution, Sharia is stated to be the source of legislation too. Looking at the Palestinian financial, criminal and social legislation, that is hogwash. In fact, almost all of the Middle East states have Sharia as the source of legislation in their constitutions and no one acts upon it. Its like the "work under pressure" thing that all employers put in job ads.

Or just the rebel leaders who have the guns. Seeing they just beat the last leader who had all of the guns they get to make the choices. Sharia law gives a lot of power to the government. It's pretty natural for the leaders to want it.

Which goes to show in such unstable countries there is no correct side to 'support' because ultimately the bastards you supported to throw the other bastard out of government may turn in to a even worse bastard than the one before.
