Men lose weight easier, but the routine is more complicated/difficult because men also need resistance training to build the muscle mass that's lost along with weight loss. Women can look good just by losing weight, but nobody likes a twig of a man

Some of us don't like twig women. I want a REAL woman, with some meat on her bones. If your collar bone can puncture my flesh, than I am not interested.

Get some equipment for your home if you can't join some place. Buy it one at a time.

I'm in kickboxing and I have an exercise bike, pull-up bar, weights, and a load of other equipment.

And all this stuff works miracles. I used to be fat a couple of years ago, but now I'm thin and have a good bit of muscle.

You're first problem is that you're unwilling to change your lifestyle, which unfortunately is what you need to do to lose weight. You're grossly overweight for your age and height, and the only thing that will enable you to drop the weight and keep it off is to eat better and stay mildly active, something that you would consider a life style change. Trust me, fasting won't help you very much, in fact it will probably be bad for you. Get off your butt and start eating better and working out.

the first thing you need to do is join one of your school's sports teams. I recommend football, soccer, or essentially anything that will up your activity.

as for fasting, no, I dont recommend doing it constantly. I find fasting is good for shrinking ones stomach size quickly, thus making you feel fuller on less food. So yea, fast for a day if your food intake is high.

do you bring bag lunch to school, or do you buy at the school? School food is notoriously unhealthy, so I recommend bringing your own. A sandwich, a piece of fruit, water or juice (or diet soda...no regular soda...I prefer sparkling fruit-flavored water, myself; Vons/Safeway sells those and theyre good and 0 calorie) and even a granola bar or a few cookies is a good lunch.

Are you in high school yet? Most high schools have a gym, and some middle schools do to. Either way, I suggest you go in and talk to your gym teacher; a lot of them have a health educatio background and would love to have a kid to work on as a project.

and last, talk to your family. If youre 14, 5'5'', and 232 pounds, I think they are not feeding you properly. Tell them you want a lifestyle change, and that it would be healthier for them too. What do your breakfasts and dinners usually consist of?

Also, TC, when you excercise, don't give in to your (possibly) low self-esteem. If you hold back, you'll never excercise. If anyone says anything to you derogatory, make it clear that you're exercising for your own good. That should shut them up.

Fasting will work, but also you can just eat minimal amounts of food. You won't realize it, but you are probably eating way too much. I never exercise and I am still skinny.

fasting is one of the worst things anyone could do, for any reason. slow metabolism is an EXCUSE. metabolism is EASY to change.

Looking over your little list.... You will never succeed in losing weight. It wont happen. Either start working out, or say hello to Diabetes.

Fasting is not a good solution to weight loss.. It's acceptable to fast for a number of reasons.. getting certain foods out of your system and so on.. but to lose weight it's not really a good idea. If I was you I'd fast for like a day or two.. while drinking water.. then get yourself on a diet program.. take a few days write down everything you're eatting.. be honest about it, count thw calories, and then start from there.. The best way to lose weight is to lower your caloric intake, and increase your activity levels. Don't starve yourself or over work your body.. both are horrible solutions in the long term.

Get a cycling bike , if you live near the country Find some good back roads to cycle. Heck even try and get some of your friends and family to join in. Or get a dog , and take it for walks regular am sure you can get one from a dog home for a cheap price. Also play with the dog its fun and great way to lose weight . Such as tug of war , Chasing them about the house to get your socks back etc.

When i joined my school football(Soccer) team i was not as good as others there. I was on team b on defence as a sweeper. I had people bully me for it , say i should not be they and take the mick out of my speech impediment. I become better at football , am good in defence now since i became a nutcase. I also got an award for the most improved player at the end of the year. If you want to know i live in Scotland so it explains the nutcase bit.

Phew! Thank God I only misread 'fasting' in the topic title :P There's some great diet advice here already. The key is avoiding allowing yourself to get too hungry and going for the quick calorie solution. Constantly snacking so that your stomach is never empty and never stretched is the best way of keeping your weight stable. Veggies are a good way of keeping your belly fed without taking in too much more than water, and fruit is a good source of energy when you need a boost and should stop your blood sugar from dropping too far.

Responding to the OP. I was also pretty bad, as in 258 around that age. Not to say that I know what I'm talking about, or that what I did was safe or healthy, but over the past 6 months, I moved from around 238, where I was standing at for a year or two, to 181-ish. All I did was stop eating outside of dedicated meals, and observed how I would get full during a meal. I used to eat just like crazy, whenever I was bored, or if there was food in front of me. I now stop immediately when I feel full, and I rarely ever let myself get bloated for whatnot. It was just understanding when I was overeating, and controlling my habits. In my first month, I dropped 10 pounds, then 15 the next map, and the loss kept going. After the first week or two, my old habits stopped showing up, and it became ridiculously easier to stop eating, and the pounds just started falling apart. I also dropped soda and snacking, and used water and tea instead.

Another thing, just keep active. I mean this not specifically by exercising, but by being occupied. Study, actively hang out, keep your daily life occupied with things to do. I myself have a lot of academic work and I stay in school afterward every day, just participating in the community. Perhaps such a schedule has prevented me from getting bored, and therefore less likely to randomly start eating.

Hopefully my little personal experience will help. Your going to feel fantastic once you get the ball rolling.

"Mind you, I'm still in school, so limiting my diet to limited things isn't a very good idea. (Example: Just water and a piece of fruit everyday. I need more than that to get me and my brain going everyday.)" Excuses....
You can still eat a good amount of vegetable and fruits and still be full and lose weight.

well obviously the lifestyle you're living now seems like the reason you've gained so much weight, so you're going to have to change it. exercising and eating healthy is the best way to lose weight.

exercise and eat well. first of all, no fast foods or processed foods, actually cook your foods. No snacks UNLESS they are fruits/veggies...you can have as many of those as you want. And when you eat meals, eat, till you are satisfied, not till you are full to the hilt. And drink lots of water, it keeps the hunger pangs away...oh yeah, exercise.

You're goal isn't unreachable. You can lose 3-5 lbs a week if you reaaallllly train yourself. You gotta be real strict on your diet and exercise, and you mentioned excessive exercise which no one should do anyways.

By the way, you're extremely articulate for a 14 year old.

trust_nobody

Not much to add, I agree 100% with this guy. You definitely don't have to starve yourself, I would say that though it's not fun you should count your calories, I would start at about 1800 a day, for a week if you lose more than 5 or less than two you can adjust accordingly. Also just substituting healthy snacks in with junk would help a lot. Good luck, I was pretty overweight at one time, but I overcame it with hard work and a good diet.

You don't need to go to a gym to get results.

The world is your gym. Do pushups, crunches, situps, oblique twists. Use your own body weight first. For your cardio, run around your block, your school's track. Run sprints (that REALLY torches body fat). Interval running is good to. All of this can be achieved without a gym membership or anything like that.

As for food, the main things would be: No more junk foods, no fast food. Period. Eat more vegetables and fruits. Consume less protein, less carbohydrates, and less fats, especially saturated fast (i.e. ice cream bars, fast food burgers, candy, processed foods like chips and cookies *Lays, Chips-Ahoy, stuff like that*) Eat small portions of food a day, around 5 meals a day. Keep them light and healthy. The internet is your friend, and just try to look for a body workout routine that would fit your schedule and your body/caloric needs.

Keep a workout log in order to keep track of your progress and keep yourself motivated.

This man has very good advice. Last year I took a physical conditioning class at my school, taught by a Marine colonel. I was definetly not over weight, but I even slimed down and gained muscle just by doing mostly things that don't require equipment. i.e. push ups, situps, crunches, leg lifts, etc... I also would suggest something to use as a pull-up bar, because the are great for working on upper body strength.

Run,walk.lift, There the best things you can do besides eating less...back in the 8th grade summer(going into 9th,im in 11th now) i was 285 pounds 6"1,now im 6"3 215.I found the best thing was definatly running and walking but another one was football for me,and the weight room..so mabe you should find a sport you like..sounds to me like football would be great and youd be perfect on the line, the seasons over this year but you can prepare yourself by lifting weights or doing various exercises using your bodyweight. another thing is do NOT go on a diet. Diets really never work. atleast in my experiences.jsut eat healthy and portion your meals. instead of goin up for seconds chug a few glasses of water untill your stomachs full. good luck, take thigns slow to start..your not gonna see results right away but dont be discouraged

oh and one person was saying something about joining the football team would be bad for your self confidence, well thats completly wrong. NOTHING makes the coaches, your fullback,qb damn anyone on the teamhappier, than when they see a big guy, shure your not about to berunning back or startin qbif you play. But youl shurely have the opportunity to be on the line maybe not a starter at first but with experience youd definatly hav the potential.

I agree with what I think you're saying... Joining a football team, especially if youre heavier is a good thing. some people just cant get over their low confidence, and it has little to do with sports.
