If animal rights involves the same levels of protection as human beings, some has argued this should also include equal rights;

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2010/mar/18/animal-rights-moral-chaos

So, should animals have the right to vote?

Not until we can openly communicate with them and determine whether or not they possess the ability to hold political opinions.

Interesting article, although I disagree with the idea that giving animals legal rights would inevitably have to include the right to vote, and that that idea being so self-evidently absurd nullifies the entire idea of animal rights. I don't see the right to vote as a fundamental birth-right, I more see it as a method to keep politicians accountable to the people. If there was a better way to do this than voting, then I would agree to get rid of the right to vote. The problem with animals voting is that they are incapable of keeping politicians accountable, due to the inability to understand them, so giving animals the right to vote doesn't really change anything. In fact, it would make it even more difficult to keep politicians accountable to people.

I do agree, however, that animals should be allowed to run for political office. There's no evidence to suggest that they'll do any worse than human politicians.

A dog received millions from inheritance. What do animals even want from the government? They don't offer anything worth voting for to a dog.

Leona Helmsley was not right in the head as it was. It should not have come as a surprise that she left that money to her pooch.

LOL. I mean, you're technically right, but that's the first thing that came to mind when you saw this thread? I'm impressed.

Considering who's in the Oval Office, I don't think it'd make much of a difference honestly.
