I watched Dark Knight today and thought all involved were excellent. It seems the force of public opinion is gathering pace that Ledger should get an Oscar for his performance but, while is was good, I didn't think it was Oscar worthy. While it would be a great Hollywood feelgood moment if he did win one I don't think it would be deserved.

Yes, one of the better performances I have seen in years, and nothing yet has been netter this year, and I dont think anyone else will do as good as he did, so I think he has it set, I mean what other actors would be nominated?

His performance was good, but it wasn't great. I was slightly disappointed, what with all the (now-apparent) fanboy-ism on here and the rest of the internet. I didn't see much that put him past Jack Nicholson, to be honest. Most of the difference was determined by the film. I don't think it should be a given that he wins an Oscar.

I think he was miles better than Jack Nicholson, those old films were too (dare I say it) comic bookish!
I doubt anyone would ever win an Oscar from a performance in a comic book movie anyway really

He accidentally took too many prescription pills and died as a result, why should that stop him recieving an acting award for his performance in a film?

No one knows what was exactly going through Health's head and what his thoughts were at the time, but most likely it was not suicide.

I'm sure I've read somewhere that the role affected (effected?) him mentally for a time...

Nothing so dramatic, really... he was taking them because he was suffering from severe insomnia.

Yea, I'm not sure why people don't look into these things. They were sleeping pills, nothing crazy or illegal. He was having trouble sleeping for obvious reasons, and for reasons we probably don't know about. Regardless, he deserves all the awards he can win. He played the role perfectly. I don't think anyone this year has put on a better performance.
