Should I help many people with my plan or work against it due to lack of credit?

So I recently had a sort of set back at work. About three years ago I proposed a plan that would massively decrease the workload for employees throughout the company, and I got told that if we were to implement such a plan company wide we would need to see evidence of it working in practice. I received permission to implement it on my team only to see if my plan would be effective. We did so, and workloads went down by 20% for most and even 30% for some people thanks to new efficiencies.

Results in hand tried once again to get the company to adopt this plan, and was categorically denied, and in fact it wasnt even publicly brought up. Last year the company came under new leadership, and the lead man proposed my plan which was largely applauded, and is in the process of being adopted. Only thing is most of the credit is going to him as opposed to me despite the fact that he has acknowledged it was my plan to begin with multiple times.

Now on one hand I very much want my plan to go into place because it will be good for most people in the company. On the other hand I really want most of the credit, and I feel like Im not getting nearly enough for my efforts. Im considering an attempt to bring the whole thing down due to lack of credit.

What would you guys do in my situation?

So, you only did it because people would recognize your awesomeness or something? A sad life you must live then.

I originally crafted the plan to lighten the load for people, but I never intended to receive less than 80% of the credit. It was my plan after all, not the new guys. Sure he wants to work with me to implement it, but he wants to receive a bunch of accolades for work that was not his,

That guy is a jerk, but the fact that you're considering taking down the plan just because you haven't been recognized says a lot about your intentions.

If the guy is going to work with you to implement the plan just stay positive, keep a smile on and help him. If he isnt a total jerk you should be getting a raise or some kind of promotion in the future. If after a few months or how ever long it takes to implement the plan that doesnt happen start looking for jobs elsewhere, but leave your current job under good conditions so you can use them as a reference.

it's his job, his plan, he should be rewarded. I would find what ever way possible to get credit for your plan. Can you not complain to who ever is above this new guy?

If I do attempt to put an end to this I'm considering the option of telling people that this was a small group's decision to solve a problem that was only effecting our small group of people.

Again I do understand this would end up helping a lot of people, but I really can't stand the amount of credit this new guy is trying to take.

What job do you have? Is it fastfood? Manufacturing? How long have you been there? Have you been promoted before? Do you have a college degree? What are your intentions with this job?

You don't work hard to help people just for the sake of doing so and to disappear into obscurity.

Still, trying to actually take the plan down sounds like a bad career move. That could look like you're working against the company's best interests. I understand that you're angry that someone else is getting ahead off of your work, but it's best to just let this slide and then take it as a lesson learned. People WILL steal any good idea they can get their hands on. If that's a problem for you, then stop coming up with such ideas and leave them to the people whose job it is to come up with such ideas.

Yep. If it had helped your fellow coworkers, and you are considering shafting them because you aren't getting the credit, you are a terrible colleague. It's not a good business decision or personal decision.

In the sorporate world, coming up with good ideas is not good enough.

You have to be politically clever.

This is why my BF who was a CIO for a mega bank tells me never to share my thoughts with people, and be the last person to speak in the room.

Since your credit has already been taken away from you, lay low and let the guy implement the plan.

When shit hits the fan and it come to a point in time when he needs help, you should step in as the hero who saved the day.

Until then, lay low, dont go against the flo, but dont help anyone.

be manipulative! If you cant survive politics you will just become a pawn.

Perhaps I could get everyone else (those not already living with it) to believe that a less heavy workload could cost them their job and thus argue against it for me.

Ok so I have a few people arguing against a lighter workload do to possible (actually impossible but whatever) less hours, and I have a few arguing that this plan would really only work on a small scale because only a small group of people needed it to begin with.

I feel a little bad about everyone else who's work will remain the same, but seriously fvck this new guy. Totally worth it.

I understand that you want credit for your work, but you need to be a team player. If you want people to know it was your idea, then tell them. Dont sabotage your boss, though.

It's already in motion, we are going to get rid of this plan, and I will replace it with "something else" that will do the same thing and I will get far more credit for the plan.

Yeah, thats the only outcome I see.

We will take it step by step to get something that will end up with me receiving more credit. The new leadership will obviously receive some credit for implementation, but the lion share will go to me. I've definitely gone about this in a subtle enough way for it to work out well.

There's nothing you can do. You'll either get rewarded or you won't. Sadly, this is the norm in all aspects of business and academia: still someone else's ideas, take credit for them, and steal the reward. I'd just find another company to work for who appreciates your efforts, but good luck finding a company that does that. EDIT: Steal... someone else's ideas.

... you sound like a whinny child. your boss knows you helped out which will lead to maybe promotions or raises in the future and just a general feeling that you are a good employee which benefits your career. this is the recognition you get and it's the recognition you deserve. to expect more is greedy. you shouldn't do things to get recognition, do them to make your life and others better... be proud of yourself, you don't need others to be proud for you.

Well as I like to tell people these days I am also unemployed. Tried to get a job recently, but it didn't work out. Still though when the new guy in charge has gone so far as to call it Obamacare, well it just seems like he is trying to take credit for ideas that were not his.

often times yes. :P
