Yes. I love religious and political discussions. I can understand that for some, they can be too serious. But equally, topics like roll call I find are too laid back. I like some serious debating. :)

Nothing wrong with them coming up though, nice to know that there's somewhere people can go to have an (un)educated debate about those matters.

Yeah...but a lot of topics turn into political or religious arguments. You can't make a thread relating to firearms without someone popping in there and b****ing that people are allowed to have them, even if gun control was not in the slightest way the subject at hand. You can't talk about homosexuality without someone bringing up religion, even if religion is not relevant to the particular issue being discussed. So on and so on.
I'm w/ the TC. There are plenty of other subjects to talk about besides politics and religion. It would be nice to see others make those topics interesting too.
I would prefer it if there was a whole separate board dedicated just to politics and religion like there is for sports but I doubt that's going to happen anytime soon.
Politics I can kind of understand, since it's a pretty broad subject which is constantly in the news, but when piracy topics get locked for being unoriginal and rehashing irreconcilable tensions, I don't get how we end up with so many near identical religion and weed legalisation topics.
You have the freedom to ignore threads you don't like and the freedom to make threads that interests you. I ignore well over 90% of all the threads here, at System Wars, et al because they're the same crap repeated over and over. I don't hold it against the folks who started them though.
I enjoy discussing these topics with others, but the vast majority who aprticipate in them are out for their own good, not looking to have a discussion, just to put others down
They are easily the most unfriendly, toxic threads on OT and debating the same issues over and over and over again, and caring that people on the internet are wrong oh noes! isn't really my thing. That being said I find it easy enough just to avoid them.
So because you don't want to talk about them, other people shouldn't post or make those threads? Ever wonder why there are so many religion/political threads? Cuz that's what people want to talk about. Clearly there is a demand for those threads because people keep making and responding to them.
Should anti-topic threads be allowed in OT? This topic kind of defeats it's own purpose. Here you are asking people to discuss religious and political discussion (two of your favorite topics here on OT) and no fun is really able to be had. Nothing was accomplished. Maybe if your OP actually made fun of, or mocked (within the rules of ToU, as not to be modded) religion and/or politics you'd get your point across and better your OT experience.
It should continue to be a part of the OT because it leads to interesting discussions and the exchange of ideas. The worse thing a person can do is isolate themselves from differing opinions.
I think religion threads need to be banned politics though no.
Religion brings in a sensitive issue for many people and when I look on this forum I CONSTANTLY SEE religion bashing and insults everyday. It feels like to me that Christians and Muslims are constantly bashed in a negative tone on many threads.
Politics have sensitive issues but they do not deal with your own faith. Politics bring good debates but I have rarely seen a good religion thread that does not have negative tones
