Should rap music be banned?

Yes it should be banned. Why? Because I can't stand anything remotely "gangsta". Gangster's use to have a cool image, now it's all these street kids who wear their pants around their ankles, talking like babies with Tourette's syndrome.ElectronicMagic

You might not think so, but I thought they were. They had a certain fashion about them they I admired. It's the kind of fashion that the gangsters have in Batman Begins and in The Dark Knight. I always thought that was cool. I just can't stand these noisy hip gangster wannabe's that plague inner city streets.

The same thing could be said about rock music. People cut there risk or seriously hurt themselves because it seems like cool thing to do. Guys wearing girls pants looks as bad as people who wearing saggy pants. But I'm generalizing. Not all people who listen to rock/metal/scremo or what ever you like dress like that or are "emo." Just like all people who listen to rap don't go around looking idiots and shoot people.

That's very true and people could have that opinion of rock. I'm not saying it doesn't, I'm not saying someone shouldn't be able to give their opinion that the genre I like should be banned(rock), I am just giving my opinion on the genre and culture.

Er, no. I kinda have to agree with him. You clearly dont know anything about rap at all. You've obviously seen 50 cent or Soulja Boy on Tv and have concluded that that = rap music, as a genre. It does not. At all.

That was better than most of what I hear, but I still don't care for it. It's just not my type of thing and it annoys me. I watched the entire thing, the singer looks like he gets shot or otherwise injured by some guys that flee the scene at the end. I know I generalized, I know many people that listen to rap and live in the suburbs, the thing is that they annoy me just as much. If you like that, that's fine. I just happen to not like it. I said it should be banned because I knew most people on here wouldn't, I don't think music should be banned in real life, I am for person freedom. My first post on this thread was half what I feel about rap and it's culture and the other half was a joke because I know rap would never be banned.

No, that isn't true. As I explained a bit in my above post. I have listened to tons of rappers, from Eminem and DMX, Tupac and Biggie, to the Flobots and Kayne West. I have listened to tons of it. Some of it isn't that bad, but even the one's that aren't so bad still have elements of the genre and culture that I hate.

Honestly, i'm a rap fan, and i cant stand Tupac. If you ask me he's everything wrong with rap. Every song is to do with Thug life, gangs, shootings, stabbings, ghettos. He's only so beloved because he was one of the first artists to start singing/rapping about the issues so many african americans had to face, and most importantly, because he died. Would Nirvana be so loved today had Kobain, or would they be just another grunge band like the Pixies?
