Should same-sex couples be allowed to adopt children?

(Why can't I use the word 'homosexual' or gay in the topic title?)

This topic has been on my mind for a while.

Personally, overall, I'd say no, but only because looking from the adopted child's perspective, having two fathers or two mothers wouldn't be the best way to raise a kid. A kid needs a mother and a father because I find each has a separate role in the child's life.

Also, the child will at least have a home and parents to take care of them.

On the other hand (although it's not nearly enough to make me change my mind to be okay with this), at least gay couples can raise children that they can call their own.

I was just wondering how you guys thought about this.

(Oh, and before anyone gets offended by anything, nothing I said was meant to offend anyone. I've got nothing against homosexuals or anything. If you were offended, I'm sorry, but it wasn't meant as an insult or anything.)

No!

Do you know how much ridicule that child will face on parent-teachers conferences? Even worse if it is Man-Man relationship/

suicide much.

I think single parents should be allowed to adopt. Since gays can't marry anyway, I see no legal problem with them adopting.

Actually, I think qualified heterosexual couples should gain priority over single individuals and then homosexual couples. Being raised by a homosexual couple is better than say, being in a foster home.

Of course they should be able to adopt children. Why does a kid need a mother and a father? Two father's won't make much of a difference.

It's perfectly fine, though it's a good idea that the kid has an adult member of the other gender in their life, dosn't matter whether it's an uncle or just a friend

NO. I respect their wish to give a child a loving home but there is no shortage of regular family situations to give the child a normal upbringing.

No, a kid needs a dad to do the dads job and a mum to do the mums job. Even if the women is doing the same things as the man does, it's still not absolutely the same.

Yes of course. I've been raised by just my mum with no father figure and things are fine so you can hardly say that the child won't get role models because their parents are gay - think of all the kids from split parent homes. I've read a few stories from teens who have been raised by two gay parents and they seem to have a better maturity and understanding than any other kid their age. Yes they might get the mess taken out of them for a while but children will find ANYTHING to pick on. My surname's English and I've had hell for that. Having two same-sex parents doesn't make much difference. I think gays should be allowed to marry, adopt and live normal lives instead of being held back by prejudice and old-fashioned legislation.

Maybe you are mentally strong, I am not, so when I get made fun of and things of that nature, I feel depressed. I live in New York City one of the states with the most concentration of Haitians & Jamaicans; most are die hard Christians and they pass the no-homo vibe onto their children and the children bring the ridicule into the schools.

its not a good situation but that doesnt mean the kid is going to go suicidal. i mean i have red hair. i got made fun of a lot just because of that through highschool. kids will pick on anyone they can. but that doesnt mean that gay couples shouldnt be able to adopt just because their kids may suffer a little through schooling

Hell no, especially if the child is of the opposite sex. I don't really mind same-sex marriages to be honest, but I honestly believe a child will grow up maladjusted in that kind of setting.

And are you in that situation? No. I am, and a lot of other people are. Tons of children are brought up in single-parent families and the numbers are increasing. I can safely say that I've had a great upbringing with a wonderful, supportive mum. She has a lot of strain bringing up two kids and I understand that and appreciate everything she's done for me.

Yeah, but this isn't a question of race. Being a certain color doesn't have an impact on how a child is raised by their parents (no matter if the child is adopted and is a different race than their step-parents). What I'm trying to say is that, I think, a child needs a mother figure AND a father figure. Having two of the same sex just doesn't make sense to me. I respect your opinion and everything, but I fail to see it your way.

Divorce is so terrible I've had a great childhood. Divorce is so terrible I have a mum who I can talk to about anything. Divorce is so terrible I left school with 17 grade A-C's at GCSE. Divorce is so terrible I got an A, B and C for my AS levels. Divorce is so terrible I'm in a loving stable relationship with a guy. Divorce is so terrible I'm going to join the police, earn lots of money, get married and have a family.

Yes I can really see your point, you've obviously lived through that terrible situation and know enough to say something like that.

I'm glad my parents were mature enough to divorce than live in an unhappy marriage for "the kids" sake. Also my dad was in the army so I would have had an unsettled education moving from place to place, not being able to make friends. I'm so glad that didn't happen.

So what? The parents should stay together if they're miserable, even if it does have the potential damage their relationship with their kid.
